Text 1

M: Hi, Ann. Your new skirt is beautiful. Where did you buy it?

W: In the shopping mall near my new apartment. I'm going to Susan's birthday party in it tonight.

Text 2

W: Textbooks are so expensive. I've spent $100 on them already! Let's share one for chemistry, since we're in the same class.

M: Good idea. I haven't bought mine yet. The chemistry book is $50, so I'll give you half tomorrow.

Text 3

M: Lily, this is John. I'm calling because I am going to pick some guests up at the airport with my boss. So I will be late for supper.

W: That's OK. I will wait for you. I'll boil dumplings.

Text 4

W: Do you have to clean the fish after you catch them?

M: Maybe Jason can clean them.

W: OK. You catch the fish, Jason cleans them, and I eat them!

Text 5

M: Are you going on holiday with your sister again this year?

W: Yes, she will come home from Canada tomorrow, and we're going away next week.

M: Where are you going?

W: I've booked a hotel in Türkiye. My sister wants to go to Italy again, so I hope she won't mind.

Text 6

W: Hey, Brad. You didn't take the envelope that was on the kitchen table, did you?

M: No, why? Do you want to send a letter?

W: Well, actually my new PIN number was in that envelope.

M: You're kidding me, aren't you?

W: No, I'm not. I left it there this morning.

M: Go and ask Jill. Maybe she's seen it.

Text 7

W: Hi, Dave. It's Lisa.

M: Hi, Lisa. I haven't heard from you for quite a while.

W: Well, I've been busy. I've been working on my third book. It must come out this June.

M: Oh, I've been busy, too. I've started my own business. I operate a grocery store now.

W: I've actually heard about your grocery store. That's why I'm calling you. My cousin Linda is looking for work. Do you need someone in your store?

M: Yes. We do need one more cashier. Please ask her to call me a bit later today. I want to talk to her about the job in person.

W: OK. Thanks, Dave.

Text 8

W: What do you think of the airport?

M: Well, it's far from downtown and when the traffic is bad, it can take an hour and a half to get there. The city really needs to build a new airport that is closer to the city.

W: Do you usually drive to the airport?

M: No. I usually take the airport bus. It's clean and comfortable, and it's a lot cheaper than driving because you don't have to pay for parking. But my wife prefers taking the subway.

W: Is there much to do while you are waiting for your flight?

M: Sure. There are a couple of stores that sell souvenirs and magazines. There are also a couple of fast-food places and the service there is nice.

W: How long does it take to check in?

M: It doesn't take long. They're pretty efficient.

Text 9

M: The school is trying to promote healthier food. Have you read this notice about the change they are making?

W: Yeah. They say the snack vending machines will be removed from the school next month. These machines will be replaced by those selling water, milk and fresh fruit.

M: So I can't buy potato chips or cookies at school any more.

W: Sure not. You know the garbage that is produced attracts insects, which does harm to the environment.

M: I agree with you. But they don't tell me what I can and can't eat.

W: Well, they are giving you the chance to eat healthier food. Also, you should lose a few pounds and this might help.

M: Well, I have been thinking of going on a diet. I may drink water instead of sweet drinks. But I need to eat some foods that I can't find in the school lunchroom.

W: You can bring them from home.

M: That's a good idea. I couldn't have thought of that.

W: Sure you could.
