Text 1

W: What kinds of sports do you like doing?

M: I love playing basketball, swimming, and riding a bicycle. And among the three, I love the first best.

Text 2

M: I've been watering my plants twice a week in the living room. But they are growing badly.

W: I think you should put them beside the window where they can absorb some sunlight.

M: I see. Thanks for your advice.

Text 3

M: So how many kids from your class are going?

W: Everyone is going, Dad. We'll go on a guided tour of the city, including the Eiffel Tower and boating on the Seine.

Text 4

M: Today's football match has been put off.

W: What's happened?

M: The organizers had a look at the field and said it's just too soft because of all the rain recently.

W: And I heard some players had been sick, which could affect how well they'll play.

Text 5

M: So tell me more about your family. I know you have a little brother and a little sister.

W: Yes, Colin and Mary. They are twins. They are very fun.

M: And you live with your mum?

W: I used to, but I moved out with my husband after we got married.

Text 6

M: I'm hungry, Mom. I have been watering the flowers in the garden all the morning. Is lunch ready?

W: Yes. Wash your hands first.

M: What are we going to have for lunch?

W: Beef, eggs and tomatoes. All are what you like to eat.

M: Are there any noodles? I haven't eaten noodles for a long time.

W: Yes, there are. There is rice, too.

Text 7

M: I'd like to sign up for a gym membership. What kinds of plans do you have?

W: We have the one-, two- and three-year plan.Would you prefer going to a single location or multiple locations?

M: I'm only living in L.A. for one year, so a one-year plan is fine. This location is near my apartment, so a single location is good for me.

W: OK.

M: What is the monthly fee? And is there an entrance fee?

W: The entrance fee is $10. The monthly fee for one location is $30.

M: That sounds fine. By the way, I need to pay both the entrance and monthly fee for a year together. Is that right?

W: Yes, that's right. Please follow me and fill out these forms.

Text 8

M: Hey, Tina. This is Sam. How is it going?

W: Pretty good, Sam. How are you?

M: Great! Do you want to go to the movies tonight?

W: Sorry, we don't go out on Saturdays. Tom and I always stay at home and watch TV.

M: That's OK. Is Tom there now?

W: Yes, but he is talking on his cellphone with his sister, Julie. Do you remember her?

M: Yes, of course. She lives in Seattle right now, right?

W: Right, but she's in the country now. She stays with a friend for a few days.

M: That's nice. Tell her I say hello.

W: Sure.

Text 9

W: So how are things going with your new job?

M: Good. I'm really enjoying my job. There is lots of work, but I'll have my dream house in five years.

W: You work all the time. Just take a break. Come and play football with me!

M: Too busy, you know. It's so exciting right now. All the opportunities are opening up in China. And I'm here to make the most of them!

W: Oh, you're so ambitious and energetic!

M: Thanks.

W: Maybe I should also think about changing my job. But I only know about computers.

M: There are lots of computer experts around. You need to improve yourself in a university!

W: Perhaps you're right, but actually I'm interested in my job. It's not very busy and the pay is not bad.

M: But you are not supposed to be content with things as they are.

W: Well, I'm not sure if I could find a better job somewhere else.

M: You can come and work for our company!

W: Thank you. I'll think it over.

Text 10

W: The new library of our school has been finished. It has four floors. The first floor provides literature. On the second floor, you can find books on science and culture. If you want to read newspapers and magazines, you can go to the third floor. You can also find many dictionaries there. On the fourth floor, there's a big computer room for students to surf the Internet, and it's free.

Everyone in our school can borrow the books on the first and second floor, five books at most at a time. Students can keep the books for one month while teachers can keep them for ten days more. There are desks and chairs on the second and third floor. They are offered to students so that they can read books or do their homework.

The library is open from 8:00 am to 9:00 pm on weekdays, and from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm on Saturdays. Please don't come on Sundays, because it's closed then.
