Text 1

M: Are these your children in this photo?

W: Yes. The oldest one is Tom. He is beside my father. This is Lily, the second oldest. This is Mike, the youngest. My husband Rick is behind him.

Text 2

M: After high school, I'll go to college and major in computer science or business.

W: I know it is easy for their majors to get a well-paid job, but I'd rather spend my college days studying how to teach children.

Text 3

M: Can I borrow your car for a few hours?

W: Of course, but I need it back by 4:00 this afternoon.

M: OK, I'll give it back 30 minutes earlier.

Text 4

W: What's the matter with you?

M: Oh, I fell over at school today while I was playing football. My arm hurts.

W: Let me have a look. Hmm... You'd better take an X-ray of your arm.

Text 5

W: I think we should buy the downtown apartment. Imagine living next to a shopping mall!

M: The one outside the city has more space, though.

W: It's certainly cheap, but do you want to spend three hours getting to work every day?

Text 6

M: Mary, this is Mike. Listen, Jerry and I want to go to a movie tonight. Jerry's brother will give us a lift to the cinema. Would you like to join us?

W: Well, it sounds like fun, but actually I've really got a lot of homework to do.

M: Come on, Mary. It will be fun!

W: I really can't. I've got a math test on Monday and I have to hand a chemistry report in on Tuesday. And I'm really getting nervous about that. Thanks for asking. Hope you will have a good time.

Text 7

W: Sorry, Victor!

M: Laura! "Sorry" doesn't cut it! You were supposed to meet me right here half an hour ago!

W: Now, now! What's a few minutes between friends?

M: You don't get it!

W: Oh, look! Here's a notice on the board. The new fashions have arrived. I must check them out! Come with me?

M: No way! You try on every dress, and it drives me crazy!

W: Well, it'll only take a second. Just have a quick look at the new fashions. Aren't you coming in?

M: No, thank you. I'll wait outside.

Text 8

M: I hear you play in a band. Is that true?

W: Yes, I do.

M: What instrument do you play?

W: I play the guitar.

M: Oh, how exciting!

W: Yes, it's fun, but I think we might break up soon.

M: I'm sorry to hear that. Aren't you getting along well?

W: Not exactly. Our keyboard player is planning on moving to New York. Also, we got a letter from another band with the same name.

M: A letter?

W: Yes.They actually signed with Sony Records, and they're demanding that we change our name. The problem is that we can't agree on a new name.

M: It just happens that I play the piano myself. We should get together sometime.

W: Yeah, that would be fun.

Text 9

W: Hong, it seems like you really struggle to learn English. Is this level too hard for you?

M: I don't know... I think it's just boring. I don't like the workbooks, because the lessons talk about childish things. I'm not a little child. I want to learn something more exciting.

W: Hmm... I have an idea that you'll like. This week, you can do a special project for class.

M: Oh? What's that?

W: I want you to watch some videos of people speaking in different English accents. I'll send you the links for the ones you should watch. They're very funny. One person speaks with 30 different accents in ten minutes!

M: Wow, that's great! But won't it be harder for me to learn English if I'm listening to so many different ways of speaking the language?

W: It may be a little difficult. But this is just a fun project to help you get more interested in the lessons. There's a more serious side to it, though.

M: What's the serious side?

W: Well, I want you to write a one-page essay about the videos and tell the class about your project on Friday. You can show some of the videos during your presentation, too.

M: I can't wait to get started! Thank you, Ms Winters.

W: You are welcome!

Text 10

M: This is the Air Museum information line. In the museum, you can see 140 old planes. It's one of the biggest air museums in Europe. The museum is 48 miles from the city centre and is not far away from the village of Charford. You can get to the museum by car. Also, you can come to Charford by train and then take the No.51 bus from the Charford Station. The good news is that a subway line between the Charford Station and the museum will be available next year. In summer, the museum is open every day from ten in the morning to seven. In winter, it closes earlier, at four o'clock. A ticket for adults is £6, and for children and students it's £4.50. For families there's a special ticket which costs £18. This year we have something extra for visitors. You can go up in a small plane that was built in 1930 and see the countryside from the air. You can only do this on Sundays and you should book this trip seven days before you come.
