Text  1
W:Wow, Jack, look at that cute dog.
M:No, Lucy, it's terrible. Once upon a time, I fed him, but he bit me.

Text 2
M:Mum, where is my daily ticket for the bus?I need to get to school.
W:Oh, it's gone. Let me call your dad to drive you.

Text 3
M:Lucy, I don't quite know about the notes you make.
W:Hmm, the crown is for "King" and the "H" is for Henry.
M:That's cool.
W:Then the heart is "love" and the circle here means "cake".

Text 4
W:I can't believe that Lucy doesn't recognize me!
M:You don't know what happened to her? She just had a car accident and lost the memory.
W:Oh, no! I am her best friend.

Text 5
W:You don't need to write all of those words. You can take a photo.
M:That's a good idea, but I...
W:Oh, I can lend you my camera.
M:What about your mobile phone?
W:All right.

Text 6
W:Fred, would you like to go to the jazz concert at the school gym? It starts at eight.
M:I don't like that kind of music, Mary.
W:Well, in that case, let's go to the cinema. It's supposed to be a good one, but tickets are hard to get.
M:I think I'd like that. I'll meet you there at seven thirty.
W:I think we should get there earlier to be sure we get tickets. Could you make it at seven?
M:Sure. I'll see you then.

Text 7
M:That was delicious. Thank you very much. You're really a good cook.
W:Thank you.
M:If you like,I could do the washing-up.
W:No, don't bother.I can do it myself later.
M:All right.
W:Would you like me to make coffee now?
M:Yes. Thanks! I wonder if l could possibly use your phone?
W:Oh, I’m sorry. It is broken.
M:Well, would you mind if I go to the phone box on the road?
W:Oh. It's ten minutes’ walk. If you like,I could drive you there.

Text 8
M:Hi, Jenny. Is it true that you're moving to London?
W:Yes, it is.
M:What made you decide to do that?
W:Work. I'm sure I'll be able to find a job there.
M:You're probably right. But where are you going to live?
W:I hope I'll find a flat to share with somebody. That way it will be cheaper.
M:You're probably right. But aren't you afraid of moving to such a big place, especially after living in a small village with your parents?
W:Not really. I think I'll enjoy myself. There's so much to do there. I expect I won't miss the countryside much and I can always come back to visit my parents.
M:Well, as your best friend, I just hope you'll invite me to stay when you get settled.
W:Of course I will.

Text 9
W:Hey, taxi! Ah, great, thanks for stopping.
M:Where to?
W:Well, I'm going to the National Museum of Art, and...
M:Sure, no problem.
W:Uh... Excuse me. How long does it take to get there?
M:Well, that all depends on the traffic, but usually it shouldn't take more than 30 minutes.
W:Oh, by the way, do you know what time the museum closes?
M:At six o'clock in the afternoon.
W: Thanks.
M:Uh, this is your first time to the city, right?
W:Yeah. Do you know any good restaurants downtown that offer meals at a reasonable price?
M:Hmm. Well, the Mexican restaurant, La Fajita. It's as expensive as other places I know, but the service is better.
W: Sounds great!

Text 10
Once Smith,a traveler, was wet and cold because he had been riding in the rain. At last he reached a country which was so crowded with people that he could not get close to the fire there. So he called out to the innkeeper. "Take some fish to my horse!" The innkeeper answered, "But a horse doesn't eat fish!" Smith then said, "Never mind, do as I tell you." The crowd of people, hearing this strange order, ran out to see the horse eat fish. The traveler, now having the whole room to himself, sat down beside the fire and warmed himself. When the innkeeper came back with the crowd of people, he said, "Your horse wouldn't eat fish!" The traveler answered, "Put it on the table, and when I have dried my clothes, I will eat it myself."
