Text 1
W: Excuse me, what time is it?
M: It’s five thirty.
W: Really? Does the park close at half past six?
M: It’s Sunday today, so it shuts at six — it stays open later on Saturdays.

Text 2
W: Dad, can we go to that hotel next to the river again this year?
M: Your mother didn’t like it.
W: What about the place on top of that hill?
M: That’s full, so Mum and I found one in the woods. I booked it last night.

Text 3
M: When will the construction of the new office be completed? The project is behind schedule. We can’t move into the new office this year.
W: I’m upset about all the noise from the construction. It’s hard to get my work done.

Text 4
W: Excuse me, I’d like to buy a desk for my little son. I don’t have any particular brand in mind, but it should be less than 50 dollars.
M: OK, we have a large selection of small desks for young children.

Text 5
W: Oh, this is amazing! It’s so lifelike. Oh, just look at the sky and the sea. A work of a talent!
M: Yeah, I can’t agree more. It’s outstanding in this gallery.

Text 6
W: Could you give me some advice about the design of the new advertisement?
M: I’d be happy to, but I really have to get this report done. Maybe Alan has some free time.
W: That’s right! And he has a background in advertising.
M: I just saw him come back from his lunch break. Now it would be a good time to catch him.
W: Great!

Text 7
M: Hi, Lily, are you still at Jane’s house?
W: Yeah, we’re just playing some games.
M: Computer games? I’ve been looking for my notebook computer.
W: Oh, sorry. I’ve just borrowed it for the evening. Hope you don’t mind.
M: Oh, honestly! You’re always using my things without asking me, and I’ve got this really important homework project! Now what am I going to do?
W: Use Dad’s computer instead. He won’t mind.
M: Look, I can’t do that — I’ve got everything saved on mine.

Text 8
M: I think the position is pretty good. And the neighbors seem nice. However, considering the walls have to be repaired, and the shelves must be repainted, your asking price is a little too high. Could you give us a better price?
W: I’m sorry, but several people are interested in this flat, so I think we can get the price we were asking for. I’ll show you another flat on Fifth Avenue this afternoon. It’s cheaper than this one, but it’s a bit smaller.
M: I’m afraid I have an appointment with a dentist. Let’s make it some other time.
W: If this afternoon is inconvenient for you, I’ll arrange another date. Let me know when is good for you.

Text 9
W: I’ve just done the most amazing Healthy Living Day at the sports center.
M: Cool! But what’s the Healthy Living Day?
W: Well, you learn to live in a healthy way. Everyone does three activities. In the morning, you can choose two different indoor activities and in the afternoon, you can try one activity outdoors.
M: Sounds like hard work! Why did you do it?
W: I wanted to do a new activity, so I went with my cousin Georgia. She didn’t do enough exercise. We made lots of new friends.
M: Were you both really tired when you finished?
W: Georgia was and she didn’t feel very well. I was OK but I needed something to drink.
M: Well, when’s the next Healthy Living Day? I’d love to go. I know I’m free most Saturdays after April 14th.
W: Oh, I’ve just booked a place for July 5th but I think the next one is on May 28th.
M: Great! I’ll come to the same one as you! Are you going to go cycling again?
W: Not this time. I’m going to do advanced skateboarding. I wanted to try boating but that group was full.
M: Wow! I’d like to do that too!

Text 10

Good evening everyone, my name’s Louise Bright. I’ve worked as a sportswear designer for a big store for four years now, but I haven’t always worked in this field. When I left school I worked as a secretary for a couple of years, and then became a bank clerk before getting a job in a travel agency. But I always dreamt about working in clothes designing. So, when I was 25, I went to college — the London College of Fashion, and did a four-year course there. I didn’t learn how to actually design and make clothes until the second year — the first year was spent looking back at the designs of the past. In the third year I worked in a big store, looking at clothes made by all the famous names. I enjoyed the course of the last year most, because each student designed seven sets of clothes for the final show. All the students at the college came to the final show, and they could invite other friends as well. But for me, the best thing was that my mum and dad could come and see what I’d done. Of course, people who were really well-known in the field often came too. I was very lucky to get work as a clothes designer as soon as I’d finished college. I really love my work, but I intend to have my own business in the end — I’d like to design children’s sports clothes, and sell them on the Internet. I don’t expect to be fantastically successful but if I could earn enough to live on, that would be great.
