M: Yeah. It’s the day before Teacher’s Day.

W: Oh, I forget to tell you that we moved to the Hilton last week.

M: Helen, I am going to take my son to the zoo tomorrow morning. Would you like to go with us?

W: I’d like to, but the weather report says it’ll snow heavily tomorrow.

M: Excuse me, Madam. Can I take Bus 105 to the railway station?

W: Sorry, I am also new here. Maybe you can ask someone else.

M: Sorry, Lady. I am afraid that you have to wait half an hour for our business hours that are from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

M: Hi, Mrs. Smith. Nice to see you here.

W: Hi, Mr. White. I’m here to buy a pair of shoes for Tom again.

M: He worn out the pair you bought last month?

W: Yes. Sometimes I think I should buy him a pair of iron shoes.

M: Oh, no. What you need is a pair of strong and comfortable shoes.

W: What’s your suggestion?

M: Maybe you should buy him a pair of leather shoes.

W: Tom doesn’t like leather shoes.

M: Then, how about sports shoes? They are strong and comfortable.

W: It seems that is the only choice. All right. I’ll take your suggestion. How about this pair?

M: They are good.

M: Hi, Jane. It’s nice to see you again. I heard that you went to the United Kingdom during the vacation.

W: Yes, I paid a visit to London and attended a summer course in English.

M: Wow. It sounds so good. How long did you stay there?

W: Well. I went there on July 5th and came back on August 15th.

M: What about the course?

W: I think the course was well organized. The teachers were quite kind to every student. They taught us to listen, speak, read and write in English, but it mostly focused on speaking. One interesting thing I found was that the English classes were different from ours because they were very free. You can sit anywhere you like in the classroom. You can ask the teacher questions at any time during the class, and you are welcome to share your ideas with the classmates and teachers. No one would judge you for your mistakes. I really enjoy this kind of class.

M: How interesting! Maybe our teachers should try that style as well.

W: Excuse me. I am a tourist here and I am looking for something local and special here as gifts. Could you give me some suggestions?

M: Well, we have quite a few choices here: pottery, postcards with our local scenery, handmade cotton hats and over there some food.

W: These handmade hats look very special and beautiful! How much are they?

M: Forty five dollars each or eighty dollars for the pair. The more you buy, the lower price I can offer.

W: OK, but I’ll buy one for myself right now and I prefer the red one.

W: Excuse me. I’m working in the airport office. I’m doing a survey. Can I ask you some questions? It won’t take you long.

M: Sure. Go ahead.

W: How do you feel about the arrival area? Were you content with it?

M: Yes, it looks nice, but it’s a long distance from the gate to the immigration area.

W: Oh, I’m sorry to hear that. Well, how about the immigration? How long did it take you to get through?

M: Oh. It’s really quick. It took me only about 3 or 4 minutes.

W: Oh, good. OK, then, I see you bought some duty free items. How do you feel about the prices?

M: Well, I thought they were a little higher.

W: A little higher? Compare to?

M: Oh, to most places in Asia, although I will say the prices seem lower here than in Europe.

W: I see. Well, how about the general appearance of the airport?

M: Oh, excellent. It’s almost the cleanest airport I’ve ever been in.

W: So, all in all this airport is clean and efficient?

M: Yes, oh, I’ve got to go, here comes my suitcase.

The car was invented just a century ago. You may know all kinds of car names, but many people don’t know who was the inventor of the first car. The first car was  invented not by a German, but by an American. His name was Henry Ford. Henry was born in a poor family. He was the eldest of six children. When he was a boy, he became interested in mending watches and machines. When he was 12, his mother died. Soon he had to work in a machine shop for two dollars and fifty cents a week. The hard life made him strong and able. At that time there was another interest in  the life of the young Ford. He dreamed to make a machine that could run without a  horse. So it was named "a horseless carriage". He overcame a lot of difficulties and in April, 1893, the "horseless carriage" was finally finished, which was the first car. Later Henry Ford founded the Ford Motor Company.
