W:  I forgot to bring a book for the journey. I could have bought some magazines at the airport.
M: You can borrow my book if you like. I’ll probably read the newspaper on the plane.
W: Great! Thanks.

M:  Come on, it’s 7 o’clock.
W:  It’s all right. The play doesn’t begin until a quarter to eight.
M:  Are you sure? I think it starts at 7: 30. Can you check the tickets?
W: Um, yes, I’m right.

M:  How was tennis? Did you win?
W:  We didn’t play tennis today because the coach was ill. We were going to play football but my friends and I decided to go running instead.

M:  I wish my cat were as active as your dog.
W:  Indeed, your cat is also very lovely. How old is she?
M:  About eight years old.Because of her old age, I decide to buy another pet.

W:  Tony, thank you for bringing those old coins today.They really helped to bring our history class to life.
M:  You’re welcome, Miss.
W:  Don’t forget to take them home with you tonight.

M:  Hi, Anna. I haven’t seen you for a long time. Are you still living in that flat by the park?
W: I got fed up with sharing and moved out two weeks ago. I’m back at my parents’ house near the school for now, but I’m planning to buy one of those new flats by the river — maybe on the ground floor so I can have a garden.
M:  That sounds wonderful.

M:  Will you go to the South Street bookstore tomorrow afternoon?
W:  No, why? Another big sale?
M:  Well, Peter Robbins will sign copies of his book Stolen Fruit and answer questions there. He is expected at a quarter past two and promises to stay until half past three, when he has to leave for another appointment.
W:  Wow, that sounds great.
M:  Yeah.I plan to go early.Queues will start to form at a quarter to two or even earlier.

W:  Welcome to Hong Kong, Stephen! What would you like to do while you are here?
M:  Thanks. Well, I enjoy science.I would like to go to the Hong Kong Science Museum first. I’ve never been to one before. I’d like to see what experiments I can try.
W:  A good plan. Oh, would you like to go to Ocean Park?
M:  That sounds exciting.However, I do go to the Ocean Park at home a lot. I guess they will be pretty similar. Oh, can we go to Temple Street Night Market? I’ve never been to a night market.
W:  If you like. We go there every Christmas and buy silly gifts.
M:  One more thing, can we take the Star Ferry?
W:  OK, if you insist. I take that every day to get to school.

W:  Can I help you?
M:  Yes. Today is the first day of the school year. I’m a new student.Where should I go?
W:  Well, all the new students will first gather in the meeting room at 9: 30 where you’ll be introduced to the staff.
M:  Where is that then?
W:  I’ll tell you in a moment. But just let me tell you some more about this morning’s activities.
M:  OK, then.
W: Firstly at a quarter to ten, in the hall, which is next to the meeting room, the Director of Studies will talk to you about the different courses and their requirements. This should last for about 45 minutes. Then at about half past ten the Student Accommodation Officer will talk about the student dormitories and some social activities that we offer. That’s in the same place.He will finish at about 11: 00. Then there’ll be a short break, after which you’ll be taken to Classroom 3 at about 11: 15 for a test.
M: Oh, I did not know I’d have to take an exam.
W: Take it easy. It just helps us find your level of English and put you in the right class.
M:  OK, I see.

W: Attention please! Now I will give you a brief introduction to the Winter Festival.It is a free event for all people to enjoy, and is organized by a team of volunteers. The first Winter Festival was introduced the year before last. Sadly due to a lack of money no festival was held last year. This year the government may provide $15,000 to the festival.They also persuaded the businessmen around the town to offer the rest $5,000.
There will be a free art exhibition on Friday 22, Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 December in the Center Park of the town. The opening hours are from 10: 00 a.m. to 4: 00 p.m. and there is an opening night only on Friday, from 7: 30 p.m. to 10: 00 p.m. Different from other exhibitions, this art exhibition is really a special one because the public will have the chance to watch the paintings which are from the town’s schools.And all the paintings are created by the students. It is great that the festival is going to host a wonderful sound of music in the Main Exhibition Hall this year. This programme aims to show some of the musical talents that we have in town. Everyone watching the performance had better not wear formal clothes, but fancy dress. And in the programme, you will hear classical music, pop music, rock music and operas.
