Text 1

M: I was lucky enough to go to the football match last night. Tom gave me his ticket.

W: Who won?

M: The American team, but the two teams were both excellent.

Text 2

W: How did you like the movie, John? Tom said it was boring. But I know you were excited to see it.

M: I can't decide. Some parts were all right, but others were not so good.

Text 3

M: Hey, Jenny. Tomorrow is my teacher Mr. Miller's birthday. What do you think I should get him, a wallet, a tie or a pen?

W: All teachers use a pen and it is usually easy to choose.

M: OK. I'll get one for him.

Text 4

M: Mom, do you have a minute to look at my report before you leave? I have to send it to my boss this afternoon.

W: I'm sorry, honey, but I'm already late for a meeting. Rick? Can you help your son with something down here, please?

Text 5

M: Mrs. Lane, why has my seat been moved to the front row? Everyone else is sitting in their original seats.

W: If you keep talking in class instead of listening, your seat will be moved closer to me so I can see you better.

Text 6

M: Where were you last Friday evening?

W: I had a family emergency, so I couldn't come.

M: That's the first time I've known you missed a book club meeting in five years.

W: Well, some things can't be avoided. In the past, I planned holidays ahead of time so that they didn't get in the way of Fridays.

M: So, what happened this time?

W: My aunt was ill on Friday and wanted me. I took her to the hospital and looked after her on the weekend. The doctor thought my aunt would be OK soon, though.

M: That's good. I'm glad to hear it.

Text 7

W: Well, Jim. Where are they?

M: Who?

W: I went to get this CD for a woman and her husband. Now I can't find them.

M: What do they look like?

W: Well, she's fairly tall with curly red hair. He's tall with short blond hair. They look like they're in their late thirties.

M: Mm, I don't see anyone like that. What are they wearing? Do you remember?

W: Yeah. He's wearing a red sweater and blue jeans. She's wearing a white skirt and a purple sweater.

M: A white skirt and a purple sweater? Hey, wait! I think I see them in the classical section.

W: You're right...Sir! Madam! I have that CD you're looking for.

Text 8

W: So Mr. Clinton, could you tell us what an engineer does every day?

M: Well, there are many kinds of engineers, such as computer engineers, software engineers or electrical engineers, but I'm an industrial engineer. I look at our processes here at the factory, and I search for any problems.

W: What do you do if you find a problem?

M: I give a report to my managers. We have a meeting, and I explain the problem to them. We try to find ways to solve it.

W: What happens next?

M: They usually follow my suggestions.

W: So the managers here have a lot of respect for you.

M: Yes, I believe they do respect me. It's one of the reasons why I like my job.

W: Well. Thank you very much for taking time out of your busy schedule today to give us this interview.

Text 9

M: OK, kid, what's so important that we have to meet in secret?

W: Well, it's August 22nd next weekend. I'd like to have a surprise party for Mum but I need your help. I thought that maybe you could take her to a movie, you know, just the two of you. Then while you're away I can decorate the family room and invite lots of friends.

M: That sounds great but how do I manage to get her back without having dinner outside after the movie?

W: Oh, that's easy. You just say that you want to pick me up in order to eat together. After you arrive home, you send Mum in to get me and when she comes in through the front door everyone shouts "Happy Birthday" to surprise her.

M: What about food? You don't have time to cook it yourself, do you?

W: I'll order everything from the nearby restaurant while you are enjoying the movie.

M: I'm so happy you've handled this so beautifully. You've really grown up. Your mother will be very glad.

M: Welcome to the Lego Toy Factory. We started making the toy here in 1949. Here is a display of Windsor Castle, in England. This is the Empire State Building in the United States, made up of 1,767 pieces. You can see similar displays in stores around the world. You are standing in the original factory where Lego was born, right here in Denmark. The first thing you will notice is that they are made entirely by machines. There are about 1,000 machines in total. The bricks start out as tiny pieces of plastic in these 14 different colored tubes. Then the plastic is melted at 200 degrees. Next, we cool them and shape them into different sizes. This process takes about 10 seconds. This is Roger, the creative mind behind all our Lego sets and creations. He is one of only ten people that work at the factory every day. This includes those who repair the machines and our cleaning staff. The only other people here are the thousands of little yellow men and women we make every hour. Amazing, isn't it?
