Text 1

W: Your teacher said you got full marks in your math exam. Congratulations!

M: Thanks! I'm sure you did a good job, too.

Text 2

W: Good morning, Tom. You're here early. Are you opening the fruit store today?

M: Yes, Jennie. But I need some coffee first. Can I get you some coffee too?

Text 3

M: I'm not sure what to order. Beer, white wine, or red wine?

W: They say red meat goes with red wine, light-colored meat goes with white, and oily foods are good with beer.

M: I know chicken is white meat.

Text 4

W: It's said that Mr. Rogers will be off work next week.

M: Yes, exactly.

W: For what? To take a holiday?

M: He is traveling to see his niece. She's getting married next Tuesday.

Text 5

M: Who is that man cutting the grass across the street?

W: That's Dr. Philips. He just moved into the Hendersons' old house last weekend. You should go over there and introduce yourself.

M: Good idea. I could always use a new friend.

Text 6

M: Oh, what a surprise to see you! Is there a problem?

W: Yes, I think there is. I have been trying to call you all morning but I couldn't get an answer.

M: That's strange. Let me check my phone. I hope it isn't broken.

W: There is an important meeting at work this afternoon. I wanted to let you know about it.

M: Ah, when I saw you at the door, I thought someone might be ill or have had an accident.

W: No, nothing like that. I just couldn't get you on the phone. Is it switched off?

M: I'll have a look. Now I remember — I put it in my coat pocket and my coat is in the car! No wonder I couldn't hear you calling.

Text 7

W: Can I help you?

M: Yes. How much is the tie? I love the pattern.

W: Oh, I love those ties. They are selling well. They're 30 dollars and 50 cents each.

M: The price is a bit high. Have you got anything cheaper?

W: Well, we do have these simpler red ones on sale, and they're the same brand.

M: How much are they?

W: Only 10 dollars. It's a great discount.

M: But aren't the colors too bright?

W: These bright colors are popular right now. Wear this one with a gray suit, and you'll look fantastic.

Text 8

M: Hello, is Susan there?

W: Yes, this is Susan.

M: This is Robbie. It's about the shopping trip tomorrow. We're going at half past nine instead of a quarter to nine.

W: OK. I've got that.

M: And would you mind my sister and her friend going with us? My sister's going to drive us there in her car. She'll bring us back too.

W: Of course not! Anything else?

M: Yes. You need to bring your bathing suit because there's a really good pool next to the shopping center. And could you bring some food? Because we won't have time to have lunch in a restaurant. But we can get a drink while we're walking around the shopping center.

W: No problem. See you.

M: See you tomorrow.

Text 9

M: Mega Bank services. Good morning.

W: Ah, good morning. My name is Jessica Meghani. I was in your bank earlier this morning and I'm wondering if I dropped my passport while I was there. Has anybody found a passport by any chance?

M: Hold on a moment. I'll check for you. Yes. One of our customers has just handed in a passport.

W: Oh, thank goodness for that.

M: When exactly did you lose your passport?

W: Oh, I didn't notice until about half an hour ago, but I was in the bank at about 9:30 this morning.

M: Have you lost anything else?

W: Anything else? No, I don't think I have.

M: Something you used in the bank.

W: Oh, my credit card is gone as well.

M: Yes. You left your credit card on the counter.

W: Now I'm in the supermarket. I'll come and pick them up after I've taken the shopping home.

M: That will be fine. Remember to bring some photo identification with you.

W: OK. See you in a moment and thanks.

M: See you later.

M: My dear students, to begin today's class, I'd like to recommend some movies to you.

The first one is Good Will Hunting. It's about a young man from a working-class neighborhood. He often gets into trouble. One day, he solved a math problem that the best students in a top university failed to solve. Students will be inspired to stay in school and pursue their talents.

The second is Dead Poets Society. In this movie, Robin Williams plays the role of an English teacher. He inspires several boys to love their lives. Students will become inspired to live life to the fullest and appreciate teachers who push them to succeed.

The third is The Color Purple. It is based on Alice Walker's novel The Color Purple. This movie shows life in America's poor south in the early 1900s. The movie tells the tale of a young African American woman's struggle.

The last is Schindler's List. The film follows the true story of Oskar Schindler, who saved more than 1,100 Jews during the World War Ⅱ. Students will learn more about the World War Ⅱ and be touched by this story.

That's all. You can watch them in your spare time. Now turn to page 48.
