Text 1

M: I never listen to the radio anyway. I can just check the weather on my phone.

W: I do the same thing. I never watch the weather forecast on television, either.

Text 2

W: Have you got any hobbies,Chase?

M: Yes, I collect stamps and old match boxes. What about you, Samantha?

W: I want to learn to ski, but I'm too busy writing this book in my spare time.

Text 3

M: There's nothing good about the movie. It didn't move me at all.

W: I know. It's totally boring. Let's do something a little more exciting.

Text 4

M: Who's been using my toothbrush?

W: Not me, Dad. I use the blue one every morning, and Mom uses the green one.

M: I knew it! Cassandra! Yours is red, not blue!

Text 5

W: Oh,man, I feel awful. I think I'm coming down with the cold everybody's been laid up with.Do you have it too?

M: No, I mean I probably look terrible because I stayed up all last night studying, but I should be fine after some sleep.

Text 6

W: Oh no! I'm so sorry, Bill.

M: What's the matter?

W: I've just deleted something by mistake.

M: But why are you using my computer?

W: Well, mine is broken and I haven't taken it to the repair shop. You know I just wanted to send a quick e-mail, so I used yours, and I'm really sorry!

M: What did you delete?

W: I don't know, just a file that was open. I thought it was mine. Sorry,Bill!

M: Oh, never mind. It wasn't important. Don't worry about it.

Text 7

W: Peanuts! Get your peanuts here!

M: Hey, I'll take two bags!

W: All right, look alive!

M: Whoa! Whoa!

W: Ha-ha, nice catch! You must have played some baseball yourself, huh?

M: Only when I was little. I used to coach my son's team, too. But now I love coming here to watch others play. It doesn't get any better than this! How much do I owe you?

W: Four dollars each, sir.

M: Here's a ten. Keep the change!

W: Hey, thanks a lot! Have a wonderful day!

Text 8

W: Good morning, sir. What can I do for you?

M: Hi. I just bought this camera a few days ago, but when I took it out of the packing, I noticed that there was something wrong with the flash. When I try to take a photo, the flash doesn't go off.

W: I'm sorry you had a problem with our product. Do you still have the receipt?

M: My receipt is right here along with the original box.

W: We don't have that product at the moment, but we can exchange it for a camera of the same price. I can also ask the technician to fix it, or I can give your money back.

M: I think I'd like to get a new camera today instead of asking my money back.

W: It looks like everything is in order. Why don't you take a look around and see if there's another model you like?

Text 9

W: Hey, Bill. I hear you are going to be sent to Germany for the new project.

M: Boy, news travels fast around here! I only got the orders a couple of hours ago.Rachel doesn't even know...

W: So, what are you waiting for? When do you plan to tell her?

M: Well, she is at work at the moment — she doesn't finish until 5.I'll have to wait until tonight, I suppose.

W: Well, I was posted there before, back in 2008.It's a bit like England, really — at least the weather is similar, and the people aren't much different. The only thing I didn't like is the food, especially the sausages. What do you intend to do about the family? Are you going to take them with you?

M: Well, I'd like to, but I don't know much about the situation at the moment... you know, about schools and all that. But I hope to move the family out there in a couple of months' time. I don't think I want to spend a year and a half out there on my own.I mean, without Rachel and the kids.

W: Yeah. Well, that's the way it is normally in our company, I suppose.

M: Yeah. Well, we'll see. Let me pay for the coffee.

W: No, no. I'll pay.

Text 10

M: Hello, everyone. My name is Ben. I'm from a group called "Nature".We run courses for young people like you to do during weekends. Now I'd like to tell you about the courses you can do on Saturday mornings. You can learn a lot about things like science and maths at school. These courses are really about giving you students the chance to come and find wildlife. It's an area that tends to get forgotten. We usually take students to a wild place that's near their home. Sometimes we go to a beach or a lake, but we've planned to go to a forest this time. That's the closest place for you, and the easiest to get to. Taking part in our activities means you get to do all sorts of things including building a fire, which you wouldn't normally be allowed to do at home.

While you're with us, we'll also show you how to make things out of different materials. On the last course, everyone designed backpacks which they were very pleased with. This time we'd get you to design and make a birdhouse.

When it is finished, you can take it home and show it to your family. We think you'll really enjoy this. Now, we'd like you to come and do some activities with us. You spend three hours each week with us and the courses last for 12 weeks. That might sound a long time, but we think you'll not be sorry when it's over. Now, any questions?
