Text 1
W: Are you ready to order, sir?
M: Yes. I'd like to have an apple juice and a chicken sandwich.
Text 2
W: I got 92 in my math exam.
M: I got 95, but Linda was the best in my class. She got 99.
Text 3
W: I hear you went to London at the weekend, Tony. Did you see all the sights?
M: A few, although the main purpose was to cheer my aunt up. She's in hospital with a broken leg.
Text 4
W: I can't believe you got second place in the race! That was amazing, Ken.
M: Thanks, Rita. But I really wanted to be the champion this year. Ron is just too fast; he always beats me.
W: At least you beat Mark this year.
Text 5
W: Tom, if you don't mind spending the day with two other girls, you can come with us to the national park.
M: I'd love to! Thanks!
Text 6
M: It's getting warmer and warmer. I want to buy some light clothes. What do you suggest, dear?
W: Well, I think shirts would be OK.
M: Do you mean long-sleeved shirts?
W: Yes. Do you have any favorite brands?
M: Well, I hear Crocodile and G2000 are quite good.
W: I know, but the prices of those shirts are quite high. And since we just bought a new house, we don't have much money left. We should save some money.
M: Yes, you are right. Would you like to go to the shopping centre with me after lunch to have a look and then choose some good-quality shirts at a low price?
W: OK. I'll go with you.

W: When did you move out of New York?
M: About three years ago. Now I live in Philadelphia.
W: That's very close to New York, isn't it?
M: Yes, quite close. Three years ago, I went to work by bus. I worked in the Broad Street. It took me about half an hour.
W: And why did you move? Did you change your job?
M: Well, yes, I did. I worked for an advertising company then. Now I work in a computer company. But that isn't the reason. I moved because New York is too crowded and I was faced with great stress.
W: And now you live in...
M: Oh, right in the suburb. It is about 30 miles.
W: So how long does it take you to go to work?
M: About an hour and twenty minutes.
Text 8
W: Dad, I need a few supplies for school, and I was wondering if...
M: Yeah. There are a couple of pencils and an eraser in the kitchen drawer, I think.
W: Dad, I'm in Grade 8 now, and I need real supplies for my demanding classes.
M: Oh, so you need a ruler, too?
W: Dad, I need some high-tech things like a computer.
M: Uh, I didn't have any of those when I was in middle school, and I did just fine.
W: Yeah, and there weren't any cars either. Things are a lot more progressive now.
M: Great. My daughter will be playing video games in class.
W: Dad!
M: OK. How much is it going to cost me?
W: Well, I found a computer at the store for only $299.
M: Well, when do you need it?
W: Now, right now. Mom's waiting in the car for us. She said she would buy me an ice cream if I could talk you into buying it for me today.

W: Hey, Diego. I'm looking for a gym. I heard you joined a gym. How is it?
M: It's really good. It has everything I really need.
W: So what does it have?
M: Well, it has a weight room and you can do weightlifting there. It also has a pool and I like swimming best.
W: Do they have any classes?
M: Well, they have dancing classes, and I've taken dancing three or four times.
W: And how much does it all cost?
M: Well, I'm paying the monthly fee so it's like forty dollars a month but I think you can get a discount if you pay with your credit card.
W: Do they take checks?
M: I'm afraid not. But you can pay cash every month. That's what I'm doing.
W: Alright. When are you going next?
M: I'm going actually. My appointment is at 5 p.m. today.
W: I'll come with you.
M: OK. Make sure you bring your sports shoes.

M: Hello! I'm Harvard Smith. As the editor of The Voice, I'd like to introduce you to our school daily newspaper. We need volunteers to help us with our newspaper. Experience isn't absolutely necessary. But we need people with writing and typing skills. Since The Voice comes out five days a week, we need excellent students who know how to plan their time well. Good grades are necessary. We can pay you, depending on your work. But don't expect to get rich. This isn't something you do for the money. Mostly it's just for fun. Anyone who is interested in this job should speak to me immediately after this meeting. Be prepared to start right now. The first issue will come out tomorrow.
