Text 1

M: Hi,Linda. Where do you work?

W: I work at Thomas Cook Travel. I take people on tours to countries in South America. What do you do, Mike?

M: I'm a student. But I have a part-time job in a restaurant.

Text 2

W: Your watch is very beautiful. Where did you buy it?

M: Actually I didn't buy it. It is a gift from my brother. He gave me on my 20th birthday.

Text 3

W: You look down. What happened?

M: I can't go to the US tonight. I have to stay here for a meeting with my boss tomorrow.

W: Never mind. You can come to my party tonight.

Text 4

W: Do you want to join me for the science project? Mr. Smith said we need to choose a partner and start working on it right away.

M: Sure. Let's meet at the library after school to work on it.

Text 5

W: John, why didn't you answer my telephone call this morning? I called you as there was a meeting you should go to.

M: Really? My cellphone ran out of power.

W: Oh, I see. I asked William to go instead.

Text 6

W: Hey, how are your classes going?

M: Oh, terrible. I can't stay focused. I'm worried about grades, work, and especially letting my parents down. Sometimes I even fall asleep in class.

W: Calm down. You can try some stress-relief methods. I usually run when I feel stressed out. How about you?

M: Well, I used to swim, but now I really like listening to music.

W: How do you feel after you listen to music?

M: A little more relaxed. Sometimes it puts me to sleep.

W: Maybe you should listen to music and swim!

Text 7

M: Look at those boats! I'm thinking of buying one.

W: What? You don't need a boat. It's a waste of money!

M: No, it isn't. Think of all the summers we can spend on it!

W: But look at the price!

M: With a little help from a friend, I could buy it. I just need to borrow $1,000.

W: You're kidding, right?

M: No, and I promise to pay you back very soon. Please!

W: Sorry, Billy. I'm broke. Anyway, I wouldn't lend you money for a boat!

Text 8

M: Why do you look so worried?

W: Well, I have to plan a dinner for my co-worker Mary. She is leaving her job to go to law school.

M: How nice that you're going to have a goodbye dinner for her! Where will you have it?

W: That's the problem. My boss suggested that we go to the Italian restaurant near the office. But Mary loves Mexican food. I think it would be nicer if we took her to her favorite Mexican place.

M: I agree.

W: The only problem is that the restaurant is far from my office. Do you know Juan's Place?

M: Of course. It's near your house. Maybe you could have the dinner after work on Friday. That way, people could drive over to the restaurant together.

W: True. But traffic is always so awful on Fridays. It will take them at least forty-five minutes to get there.

M: Well, then why don't you try to find a Mexican restaurant closer to your office?

W: That's a great idea.

Text 9

W: I would like to buy two tickets for me and my friend to New York, please. And I need to leave today. There is something that needs to be dealt with about business.

M: Are you aware that prices of tickets without two weeks' advance booking will be very high? And today is Saturday. I'm afraid there may be no tickets left. Oh, luckily, here are two tickets to New York, but they're economy, not first class. Will that be one-way or round-trip?

W: I wish I could stay there longer, but unfortunately it will have to be a round-trip ticket.

M: When would you like to return?

W: I will stay there for seven days.

M: OK. I have booked you on Flight 513 leaving at 2:00 pm and arriving in New York at 6:00 pm tonight. The return is Flight 514 leaving on 6th November at 8:00 am and arriving at Michigan at 12:00 on the very day.

W: Perfect! I still have time to go to the shops in the airport before I go. Oh, but how much are they?

M: Two return tickets to New York are 150 dollars in total.

M: Hello. Thanks for turning on WBEZ Channel 7. I have some weather news updates for you. We have some cold weather heading toward us this Thursday evening. It will start raining in the afternoon around four or five. And the temperature will drop below freezing overnight, which means snow during the night! I predict it will pile up to three or four inches. In the morning, it may get even more dangerous. The snow may turn into frozen rain and become ice everywhere.

Even though the town is putting salt on the roads to prepare for the weather, the roads will still be very icy and bad to drive on. High schools around the area have already closed for tomorrow, and the local college is considering shutting. I recommend buying a lot of food and water and staying inside for the next one or two days. It may take a while for the ice to melt and the trucks to push all the snow off the road. Thanks for listening in to this update, and please be careful out there.
