Text 1

M: I like drinking tea, but Max only has coffee and milk whenever we visit him.

W: You can bring some with you. I'm sure he won't mind.

Text 2

W: Can you tell us what you like doing in your free time?

M: Well, I like music. I listen to a lot of pop music, but most of all, I like watching TV. It's much better than reading a book.

Text 3

M: That movie is great! The acting is always good in movies with a famous director.

W: The music is good, too. But I think the beautiful scenery is the best part.

Text 4

W: Where have you been recently? I remember I met you at the managers' meeting last month. Have you been away on business?

M: No, I've been away on holiday. I visited my grandma in the countryside.

Text 5

M: Are you going anywhere for the Chinese New Year?

W: I thought about going to visit my aunt in New York. How about you?

M: I will probably just stay at home since it is not warm those days.

Text 6

W: Are you coming to the beach with us this afternoon?

M: No, not today. I have to go to my mom's place.

W: Oh, that's nice. Are you doing something special with her?

M: No, she's actually going out of town with friends. I'm taking care of her cat.

W: Where is she going?

M: She's going to Las Vegas with a couple of old friends from her school days.

W: Oh, that's great. When will she be back?

M: She'll be back tomorrow.

Text 7

W: I'm looking to buy a new cellphone. Can you help me?

M: Sure. What kind of model are you looking for, something easy to use or something that is very fast?

W: I want one that isn't too expensive but has new technology in it.

M: No problem. How much are you planning to spend? Our newest phones can cost up to $1,000, but we also have phones that are only a few years old. They are still very good. Most people spend $300 to $600 on an older phone.

W: I'm looking for something in the lower part of that price range today. Maybe something around $400.

M: Okay, let me show you what we have.

Text 8

M: So, we're back in class at last. I didn't see you all this summer, Mary. Did you leave Beijing?

W: Yeah, I told my parents I wanted to escape Beijing's heat, so they asked me to go to Wuhan to help my uncle with his business.

M: Wuhan? That's even worse.

W: Actually, I didn't go. I ended up in Xiamen. My uncle moved there at the last minute, and he asked me to stay with him there and help decorate his new apartment.

M: Did you find anything fun to do there?

W: Well, I did have some time to go to the beach, of course.

M: Wasn't it unbearably hot there?

W: No, it was surprisingly pleasant.

M: Did you like the food?

W: It wasn't terrible, but I must say that seafood isn't really my thing.

M: That's a shame! All that delicious fresh fish is there and nobody appreciates it.

Text 9

W: Hi, my name is Ann Smith.

M: Hi, I'm Bill Harrington.

W: Hi, Mr. Harrington. In order to satisfy your needs better, I would like to ask you a few questions before I show you what is available. First, what price range are you interested in?

M: Somewhere between $400 and $450 a month.

W: Okay. Do you have a specific location in mind?

M: Well, I would like to live somewhere on a bus line.

W: And when would you like to move in?

M: On the first day of next month.

W: Okay. Here are some photos of the apartments. Which one do you prefer?

M: This one on the Broadway Avenue looks nice, but it's too small. This one on Lincoln Road is too big. Wait. This one on George Street looks perfect.

W: Sure. Let me get the keys and we will go to look at them first. If you choose to rent one of them, I will contact the owner of the apartment.

M: Great! Thank you.

Text 10

W: Good evening, everyone. In tonight's Book Time, I'd like to introduce one of the best children's books. The book is titled I Walk with Vanessa. This wonderful wordless picture book is for little ones aged 4 to 8. It tells the story of a new girl in school, Vanessa. The new girl spends her first day in school all by herself. She does not join in the games, and she doesn't take part in the classroom activities either. As soon as school is over, she leaves quickly. On her way home, she is badly treated by another child. A girl in her class sees this incident. That girl spends the entire evening thinking about what she saw, and what she can do to help. On the morning of the next day, she has an idea. She goes to Vanessa's home and walks with her to school. Friends join the walk, and soon the entire school is walking with Vanessa.

This wonderful picture book teaches children what they should do when they see someone badly treated by others. And it also teaches children that a simple act of kindness can really help.
