M: Can you change the channel to the sports, please? The kids were watching cartoons earlier on this channel.

W: Can you watch it tomorrow? The latest movie will be on in a few minutes.

 

W: What do you want to get Mom for her birthday?

M: I can’t decide! Maybe a necklace? Can we just ask her what she wants? It will make things so much easier.

W: No, we’re going to surprise her. She has enough necklaces and dresses. Maybe you can paint a picture of her. She must like this surprise.

 

M: Fancy a game of badminton today, Julie? David is going to join us.

W: I do, but my parents are taking me out for dinner.

M: What a pity! I hope we can do it some other day.

 

W: You don’t like the steak?

M: Yes. Actually, could I have chopsticks? I’m new to America and I’m not too good with the forks you put here.

W: Of course. I’m sorry I forgot to put chopsticks on the table for dinner. I’ll get them for you.

 

W: Where is Tom?

M: On the bed. I can’t get him to wake up. I shook him when his alarm went off. Then I went back to shaking him after a while. But it was no use.

W: Have another try. He has to enter the singing competition this morning so he can’t be late for school.

M: OK.

W: I could do my job with my eyes closed. Do you ever feel that way?

M: Well, no. I’m with patients all day. So, if anything, it can be quite tiring at times.

W: Yes, I think your work is quite tough. I don’t know how you treat and comfort them and make them feel better.

M: It’s not easy, but it is rewarding. Do you think you’ll get a promotion soon?

W: Yes, if only I keep working hard! And I need a promotion, too. Writing advertisements for the same product has become so boring.

M: Keep at it. I believe you’ll be the manager of your department someday.

W: Why? They’re great for the environment, and they can save us a lot of money in terms of power.

M: You’re right. Powering the car by electricity is much cheaper. It’s the technology that makes EVs expensive to buy and some people would rather save now. Plus, there aren’t many places to charge them when people are driving long distances.

W: Well, maybe in 3 years things will change. Let’s buy one when you are free.

M: Sounds like a plan to me.

M:Good evening, everyone. I’m your friend Allen. Now there is a piece of exciting news. The National Telephone Company has already started to knock down the big cell phone tower on Watson Road. As a matter of fact, the tower was built only two years ago and some major repairs were carried out on it just a year ago. So why is it being removed? It is because of bats. As we know, bats are almost blind and they are guided by signals. Scientists found that the signals from the cell phone tower were affecting some very rare bats in the area. As a result, the signals caused the bats to get lost and sometimes die. At first, it was thought that the color or the height of the tower was to blame for the bat deaths. When the problem with signals was discovered, the phone company agreed to knock the tower down and move it to a new place one kilometer away. In the new place there are no bats. When the removal is done, the animals will be out of danger. Thanks for your listening.
