M: Thank you for treating me to this delicious meal. Are you going anywhere else next?  

W: I’m going to the book club. We plan to read a book about a famous jazz musician.  

 

M: I’m sorry I didn’t attend your birthday party ! I had an urgent meeting that day. Here’s your present.  

W: Wow, you are so sweet! Thanks.

 

W: It’s almost midnight. Let’s call it a day and finish the report tomorrow.  

M: It’s almost done. I think we should continue to get it finished, so we can begin something new next morning.

 

M: I need you to keep a close watch on the entrance of this building. Make sure no one comes in or goes out until we have cleared up the problem.  

W: Is this a test, sir? Or is there a real threat?

M: I don’t know, but we have to take it seriously and do our bit. 

 

M: Hello! This is Peter at 66 Bingfield Street. I’d like six burgers, three bottles of Coke and three pieces of bread for eight o’clock.  

W: OK, they will be ready soon.

M: How time flies! The winter holidays are coming soon. 

W: Yes, do you have any plans?

M: Certainly. I want to go to Egypt. How about you?

W: I’m afraid I can go nowhere. I failed my English exam. You know my parents are so strict with me and they enter me for an English class.

M: Sure thing. I have no plan for the day after tomorrow.

W: No. He hurt his knee this time. And he also suffers from some waist pain these days. The doctor said there’s nothing serious, but he needs rest for now.  

M: I hope he’ll get well soon. 

W: Yes. One of my friends works for you. She told me about the position. She’s talked about how the company supports her in learning new skills and pushes her to advance her career.  

M: We do have a skills training school and we expect our employees to try to better themselves.  

W: Well, I’m definitely eager to learn something.  

M: We also offer flexible work hours if it suits. We’d like to think of our company as a big family. So as long as you do the work, you can set your own schedule.   

W:That sounds perfect. And I like that best.

W: I need something bright as I often go climbing. So I will pick the yellow one.

W: I think it’s a little tight. Please give me a bigger size.

M: No problem. This one is in a small size, so we should probably go for a medium one.  

W: Well, the medium one is OK. How much is this jacket?  

M: It is $200, but we’re offering a 10% discount this month.   

W: Amazing! I’ll take this one.

Hello, everyone! Welcome to our school and I will give you a brief introduction of it. Our school is an international language college. As you can see, there are a lot of buildings here. It can be confusing and difficult for you, especially the new arrivals, to find your way, so I will take you for a quick walk, in the hope that you can get familiar with the surroundings. The college used to have four departments: English, French, German and Russian. But this year, a new Chinese department opens up. At the moment, we are just outside your department, the English department, which is the largest department in the college. There are 25 students in each class and we have 35 English teachers, including 15 professors. The teachers are mainly from the USA and Canada, with a few from England and Australia. You will have all your classes here in this Teaching Building. Now, let’s walk to Old Main which is the largest building in the college just next to the Student Activity Center.
