W: Do you remember my telling you about one of my workmates, Catherine?  

M: Sure, I do. Is anything wrong?

W: Well, she isn’t at work again today. She seems to be a bit under the weather recently.

 

W: Hi, Bill. I wonder when I can have the novel you are reading.  

M: Be patient, Alice. I’ve read three quarters of it in four days. And I need two more days to finish it. Then I’ll give it to you immediately.

 

M: Drummers are an important part of any band.  

W: There’s no question about it. As the old saying goes, you can have a bad band with a good drummer, but you can’t have a good band with a bad drummer.

 

W: Without your help, I couldn’t bring my sick child to the hospital in time all by myself. I can’t thank you enough.  

M: Don’t mention it. I’m glad I could help. Now what about your report for the meeting?

 

M: The air is really fresh outside. What do you think about the movie?   

W: To tell you the truth, I don’t think it is all that good.  

M: Oh, really? I was attracted by the moving plot and worried about the fate of the main characters all the time.

W: Welcome to the show, Dr. Audio. Can you give us some suggestions about hearing?  

M: Of course. First remember one thing. Don’t play your music too loud!  

W: What do you mean?

M: Well, the louder the sound is, the more damage it can cause to you. So everyone needs to be careful of loud sounds. Do you use earphones?   

W: Of course. Almost everyone does.

M: Then do you follow the 60-60 rule?

W: What’s that?

M: The sound shouldn’t be louder than 60 percent of the loudest sound. And listen to it for no more than 60 minutes a day. Everyone should follow this to protect their hearing.  

W: I think so.

W: Let me check on these. Well, you are allowed to get on the plane, sir. However, you’re required to go through extra security screening.

W: Yeah, sure. London is a very interesting place where a lot of cultures are mixed. There are lots of historical buildings, for example, Buckingham Palace and Big Ben. There is a very famous museum called the British Museum.  

M: That’s really good. I’m interested in history and I really want to see these historical spots. And are there any other things I should try in London? For example, is there any good local British food?  

W: Well, the UK isn’t very famous for food, but a lot of food from different countries is all gathered there. There’s a very good place called Camden Market and you can go and buy food from all over the world.  

M: Good. That sounds really interesting. Thank you.  

W: You are welcome.

Hello, everyone! I know you’re all excited to be here and looking forward to knowing who are the winners of our art competition. And now, finally, the time has come to announce the result. Before I start, I have to tell you that one of the candidates, Rose O’Brien, has decided to withdraw with her work My Old Bag from the competition for some reason. Now let’s focus on our remaining three candidates: Maria Sanchez, John Krakow and Donald Wreck. All of them deserve recognition and congratulations for making it this far. This is a very tough competition with more than a thousand entries, so you should all be very proud of yourselves. So, after counting the votes from our judges, we are happy to announce that the champion of the competition is... Oh, wow... The champion is our youngest contestant with no formal art training. Congratulations to Donald Wreck, with his work My Sister Emily ! He will be awarded the opportunity to show his art in exhibitions at our art galleries across the country, as well as a $5,000 cash prize . As for the lucky runner-up, let’s congratulate Maria Sanchez who did an oil painting named My Hometown. She will go home with a $1,000 cash prize. Congratulations!
