W: Janet has got a new job in an investment bank. I heard that it offers pretty good pay.

M: I heard that too. Now, she’ll be able to save up for her longed-for tour of China.

W: I’ll go to the store across this theatre to choose a graduation gift for my brother after the film finishes. Would you like to go with me?

M: Sure. Time really flies! Last time I saw him, he just went to high school.

M: I heard many people have bought these new phones. How do you usually say something selling very well in English?

W: We often say they sell like hot cakes. And there’s actually another way of saying it: the new phones are flying off the shelves !

M: Hello. You often hold parties in your house and I can hear the music clearly from next door. I’m having online classes at home these days. So would you mind turning it down a bit?

W: Sorry, I promise we won’t play music that loudly again.

M: Cover one eye. Look at the letter "E" which I point out to you, and then tell me the direction of its opening. 

W: Sorry, I can’t see clearly.

M: Oh, your vision is not good. It seems that you need to wear glasses. But you should have another test here first.

M: Hello, can I speak to Mrs. Wilson, please?

W: This is Wilson speaking.

M: Oh, Mrs. Wilson, this is Roy from Martin’s repair company. I’m sorry to inform you that I won’t be able to stop by in the afternoon because I got an emergency call five minutes ago about a leaking roof.

W: Thank you for telling me. When will you be available to come and take a look at my window?

M: I’m free all day tomorrow. When is best for you?

W: Tomorrow morning will be fine. Also, please get in through the back door. My front stairs are under reconstruction.

M: OK. See you then.

M: Excuse me, I’m searching for an old music box made in the 1940s.

W: You came to the right place. We just got two yesterday from the second-hand market, so now we have five.

M: Does any of them have dancing figures?

W: Yes, we still have three boxes left that have dancing figures.

M: This one is so beautiful. Do you provide a guarantee?

W: Oh, no. We’re not responsible for all the goods once they are sold. If it breaks down, maybe you can get it fixed elsewhere.

M: Well, then I have to rethink about whether to have it or not.

W: Hi, Jack. How was your exam?

M: Hi, Karen. It was not good. I failed my maths and science exams. I’m not sure whether to retake them or change my plan completely.

W: Oh, bad luck. By the way, don’t you intend to study medicine to be a doctor just like    Sophia?

M: It’s what my parents want me to do. Actually, I like language.

W: How was your English exam?

M: I got an A in it.

W: Ah, that’s great! It would be better for you to study something related to language. Maybe you’ll become an expert in language with your love and knowledge. 

M: Yeah, I have the same feeling. However, my parents aren’t going to be happy when they know my thoughts. 

W: Well, I’m sure they just want you to have a good future. Why not talk to them about that? 

M: You’re right. I should do that as soon as possible.

W: Can I help you, sir?

M: I want to return this biology book and I really need a book for my paper on urban planning, but I didn’t see any one on the shelf.

W: According to the computer, there is one such book that has not been checked out yet on Shelf 7.

M: Then why isn’t it on the shelf? I really need it. The deadline for my paper is Friday and I only have two days left.

W: It means that someone in this library is holding it right now. 

M: So is someone else going to check it out?

W: Yeah, perhaps. But maybe someone is reading that book here.  You’d better stay here for a while to see whether it will be returned.

M: Can you make an announcement to ask whoever having the book now to come forward to return it? 

W: Sorry, I can’t. This goes against our rules. And when it comes to books here, first come, first served.

M: I see. I’ve gone too far. Please excuse me.

W: Never mind.

Smart TVs are available in high definition and can recognize people’s voice and movements. However, have you ever imagined - tasting the delicious-looking food you see on cooking shows? Professor Miyashita from Meiji University in Tokyo has created a TV screen that could give you a multi-sensory experience. It is called TTTV. He hopes his work means that screens can change from traditional ones just having pictures and sound to new ones that involve the sense of taste too. TTTV can copy food flavors by using 10 different flavor sensors. These send a combination of flavors to the film that is part of the TV screen. Then TV viewers can taste it. The professor developed this screen with the hope that people can still have novel experiences of something like food while staying at home. Food experts have suggested other applications of this TV screen, including aiding chefs in their cooking studies. They believe the technology used for TTTV could be used to give additional flavor to food such as pizza. Nowadays many advanced smart TVs range in price from $700 to $1,400. Miyashita said this TV would be priced at about $1,100.
