Text 1
M: Hey, Rachel. Can I borrow your large suitcase?
W: Why do you need it?
M: Some friends and I are going to Hawaii next week, and my suitcase is not big enough.
W: How can you afford the trip? You still owe me $500 for that old car.
M: I took out a loan.
W: How foolish you are! I took out a loan once, and it took me forever to pay it back.
M: Don't worry. I'd sell my mountain bike or my CD collection, or you could lend me more money.
W: Forget it.

W: Hi, Mark. This is Lucy speaking. I have been waiting here in the conference room for 10 minutes already. Isn't the meeting on Wednesday? Where is anyone else anyway?
M: Didn't you hear that our meeting was put off until Friday?
W: What? The meeting was postponed? No one told me anything about it.
M: The message was released to everybody's cellphone yesterday.
W: Oh, I received too many messages but missed this important one.

M: Good afternoon.Welcome to your new dormitory. I'm Jack. I'm here to receive the new students.
W: Nice to meet you. My name is Lucy Wright.
M: Okay. Lucy, you are in Room 452. Both of your roommates are already there. And tonight we will have a special dinner for all first-year students in the cafeteria.
W: Um, must I come for dinner?
M: Well, we want all new students to attend, so they can meet the other students. Most importantly, you'll hear all the rules for the first time.
W: Oh. Well, my parents wanted to take me out to dinner, but I guess they'll just drive home.
M: Well, please invite them to attend our Parents' Day next month.
W: Okay.

M: Professor, can I hand in my work late?
W: Well, extensions are given only for medical reasons. What's your problem?
M: I can't finish reading the reference books.
W: You do not need to read them all. Choose some helpful parts from the books. For example, you need to read Oliver, whose arguments will give you a lot of help.
M: Fine. Should I read Billy's book?
W: His work is good, but you needn't read it now. You can read Andrew's.
M: Yes.I am reading Andrew now.
W: Good. His research method is excellent. How is your research work going?
M: I couldn't find the data I need. Would a survey work?
W: I don't think you will have enough time to design it and then analyze your research data. It's better to interview some professionals.
M: Thank you. I'll follow your advice.

W: Mmm, there's a wonderful smell of fresh coffee in the air.
M: Oh, welcome! This is the Festo coffee. It's the best in the world, and you can only get it here.
W: And, where is here?
M: The Festo Island.
W: Festo Island? So that's where we are.We really have gone off course.
M: Where are you heading?
W: We set off at Cape Island and we're supposed to be sailing toward Denis Island, but we got lost when our GPS broke.
M: Oh, you don't have to worry about that. My brother fixes things. I'm sure he can help. Let me take it for you, and if you can come back at four o'clock, it will be ready, hopefully.
W: Brilliant, and while I'm here, can I buy some of those coffee beans?

M: Hello. This is Bob. Is that Alice?
W: Yeah, this is Alice speaking.
M: Alice, I remember that we have seen Hotel Transylvania 1 and Hotel Transylvania 2 before. They are interesting and we both like them very much, right?
W: Yeah. What's up?
M: The film Hotel Transylvania 3 is on this week. Would you like to come and see it with me and David on Friday afternoon?
W: Sorry, I'm afraid I can't. I need to meet Dr Bill. My teeth don't hurt any more, but I need a final examination on Friday afternoon.
M: Dr Bill? You mean the dentist you saw last Friday?
W: Yes. He does fantastic work and just charges a little.
M: All right. Then what about Saturday afternoon?
W: That will be fine. When does it start?
M: At six thirty. Would you please come half an hour earlier , so we can have a drink first?
W: OK, fine. Let's meet at the café in front of the cinema. By the way, shall I take some snacks with me, Bob?
M: You don't need to. I will ask David to take some.

W: Have you seen the new Cosmo magazine that I bought? I remember I put it on my desk.
M: I saw it on the kitchen table.
W: It's not there. Oh, here it is, on the sofa. There's an interesting interview with a popular director about his latest film that I want to finish. He's Martin Scorsese. You liked his film, The Departed, didn't you?
M: Yes, it was fantastic! Can I read the article when you've finished?
W: Sure. You know it has an online edition, too. You could go online to read it.
M: Well, OK. Just out of curiosity, do you buy the magazine regularly?
W: Yes.
M: How much does the magazine cost?
W: It's almost £3 now and I heard they're going to put the price up to £4 soon next month. I think few people would buy it if the price went up to £5.
M: I bet you'll still buy it.You wouldn't be able to live without your fashion magazine!
