Text 1

M: Excuse me, madam. I remember there used to be a pizza shop around here, right?

W: Yeah. But it has moved to Bridge Street, right next to a popular flower shop.

M: I see. How can I get there?

Text 2

W: You've given this place a completely new look, Fred.

M: I just threw away the useless things and put the tables and chairs in the right place.

W: You have done a great job. I will get a bunch of fresh flowers to brighten up the room.

Text 3

M: Clara, you've got well quite quickly.

W: Sure. I owe my thanks to Linda for her encouragement and patient care in the hospital.

M: She is very professional. Are you living with your daughter now?

W: Of course. She has applied to her company to work from home.

Text 4

W: How did your Italian class go today, John? It's Monday today, isn't it?

M: Yes. But I didn't have any language classes today. They have been rescheduled for Wednesday.

W: Oh, I didn't know that. How about your chess class then?

M: It has been moved to tomorrow.

Text 5

M: Hi, Mia. What are you up to this weekend?

W: Instead of sitting on my sofa and watching some boring movies, I will go boating with some of my friends. Would you like to join me, Frank?

M: Sounds interesting, and you can have lots of fun by doing that. But I have to work part-time.

M: Ha-ha, this animal painting looks so funny. It seems like it was done by a child. You told me you'd been studying painting for four years.

W: Come on! Stop laughing. I was only seven when I painted it. But now I'm going to have my twenty-second birthday party next month. In fact, this picture is precious to me because it was the first one that I completed independently.

M: Okay, okay. I get it. Can you show me some of your recent works?

W: Sure. I keep them in this folder. Look, this one is my favorite. Two years ago, when our teacher took us to an open-air activity, he asked us to draw a rough sketch of the lake.

W: It looks like it's going to take ages to read this novel by Stephen King. It's so thick, and I'm worried I won't have time to finish it.

M: Oh, this author never disappoints me, especially this novel, The Stand. It's one of my favorites. I understand why you hesitate, but just remember what Mark Twain said, “The secret of getting ahead is getting started.”

W: That's true. However, I am still afraid that I won't understand the book or that I won't enjoy it.

M: Well, you won't know until you start. Maybe you could set aside some time each day to read a few pages, and you might find that you enjoy it more than you expected.

W: That's a good idea. I'll try. Thanks for your encouragement!

Text 8

W: Hey David. I've noticed recently that I've spent quite a large sum on ordering takeout. Do you think there's any way to reduce it?

M: Actually, we're quite similar. I find it convenient to order food instead of cooking, especially after a long day at work. But I've also realized that it's not the most economical way to go about it. I've been trying to cut back on takeaway food and cook at home more often. It's not only cheaper but also healthier, because I can control the ingredients and serving size.

W: Yes, I've been thinking about doing the same thing.I just don't know how to fit cooking at home into my busy schedule.

M:Every weekend I always plan out what I'm going to cook for the next week and make a grocery list. So, I don't have to waste time considering what to buy or cook every day.

W:Those are really helpful. Thanks.

Text 9

W: Nick, did you hear there would be a science fair in the Science Museum opposite our school?

M: Of course, next month. It's only the beginning of October now. And the result will be announced 30 days after the event. The top three groups will be awarded. I am considering taking part.

W: Same here. I want to do a project on renewable energy.

M: That's cool! I am thinking of doing something related to plants. But I'm not sure yet.

W: Hmm...Maybe we can work on a shared project.

M: Sure thing! That would be great. But we need to choose an idea soon. The deadline is coming up.

W: How about researching the effects of different types of light on plant growth?

M: Good idea! We could experiment with various colors of light and see if the colors have any effect.

W: Great! We will have to buy some plants, lamps, and other stuff before we begin.

M: That's right. Let's make a plan. My parents went out for some sort of celebration, so we can head for my home and write down everything we need.

W: Okay. By the way, do you know any shops selling plants nearby?

M:No. But my neighbor is a professional gardener. Maybe he can lend us a hand. He's got many kinds of plants in his garden, and he's always kind.
