Text1

W: Good morning, sir. Can I help you find something?

M: No, thanks. I'm just looking around.

W: Sure. Let me know if you need any help.

Text2

M: Tina, what do you like to do when you get off work?

W: Occasionally, I try new recipes or read a good novel. But I often go to the cinema or have a restful night in with a good film.

Text3

W: What are your plans for the summer vacation, Edward?

M: I'm planning to spend the first two weeks with my grandparents at their countryside home.

W: Are you planning to go anywhere else after that?

M: Yeah, I'll join some friends for a week-long camping trip in the forest.

Text4

W: I typically work out at the gym on Saturdays.

M: That sounds lovely, Lena. Are you going to do the same this Saturday?

W: Actually, this Saturday is a bit different. I'll attend a new art exhibition in the morning , which I've been looking forward to since last month, and then meet up with my friend Lucy. It should be a fun day!

Text5

M: Hi, Emmy. This is John. I really hate to cancel our arrangement, but...

W: Oh, no. I've just booked a conference room for our meeting tomorrow. What happened?

M: I'm so sorry, but I have a family event that I can't skip. I hope you understand.

W: Never mind, John. We can meet another time then.

Text6

W: Hello, Moonlight's.

M: Hi, I called earlier to reserve a table for four and I was wondering if I can make it for six instead?

W: Ah, under what name was it booked?

M: It's Jeff.

W: OK. Find it. Table for four at half past seven. So you want to change it to six o'clock?

M: No, I want to make it for six people.

W: Oh, I see. That shouldn't be a problem. I can move you to a bigger table but it will be nearer the kitchen. Is that OK?

M: No problem.

Text7

W: Robert, are you doing history alone this term?

M: No. I'm doing history and German. I think combining them would give me a broader viewpoint.

W: Wow, history and German. That's different! What do you think of it?

M: Interesting, though German doesn't help in remembering dates. And you?

W: I'm doing history and French. I love how French connects with European history.

M: I wanted to do French initially but German seems to be easier, so I took that.

W: German is so hard for me! I admire you for taking it, Robert.

Text8

W: I'm thinking about traveling with my kids, but I'm worried it might be too tiring or they'll be too noisy. What's your experience been like, Shelton?

M: Well, it's rewarding and allows me to learn new things. Traveling with kids lets me experience the world through their eyes, and everything feels fresh and exciting.

W: That sounds amazing. What did your son enjoy the most during your trips?

M: He absolutely loved riding the waves standing on a surfboard. He couldn't get enough of it and always wanted to catch just more waves. This summer I intend to hike in the mountains or visit a history museum. Where are you thinking of going, Hayley?

W: I'm considering taking my family to a nearby town. We've always wanted to explore its rich history and ancient architecture.

Text9

W: Hi, Mike! I really need your help with something. Is your neighborhood pet-friendly?

M: Of course, what's going on, Ann?

W: My aunt is sick, and I need to go to see her. I have a cat that needs looking after while I'm away. None of my neighbors can help. Can you do it?

M: I'm sorry, I can't. Staying with cats makes me react badly; they make me sneeze a lot.

W: Oh, I see. I'll be out for about ten days. Do you know anyone who might be able to take care of my cat?

M: Let me think... Maybe you can ask Lisa. She adores animals and has taken care of pets before in pet shops.

W: That sounds like a good idea. Could you call Lisa and see if she's available to help out?

M: Sure, I'll call her right away and let you know what she says.

W: Thanks, Mike. I really appreciate your help.

M: Hello, everyone. It's nice to see you all here. Welcome to Chinese Culture and Language. I am your teacher Jamie White. Before we begin, I want to tell you some information about the class.

Our class is in room 21, on the second floor. When you go upstairs, turn right to find the room. Again, that's room 21. We have class twice a week, on Tuesday and Thursday. Our class begins at 3 pm and lasts until 4:15 pm. That's 3:00 to 4:15. Please make sure to arrive on time, OK? Additionally, I have office hours on Monday and Wednesday mornings from 9:00 to 11:00, and I am in office 5A on the ground floor. So, if you have any questions or problems or want to talk to me, come to meet me there then. We begin next week, on April the 8th. The course ends on June the 18th.

I think that's all ... Oh, one more thing. For this course you need this book. So, please get a copy of it. I don't want to see any photocopies of the book, thank you! That's all, everyone. I look forward to working with you. See you next week!
