Text 1

M: I hope I could see Jack and his wife here.

W: They planned to come. But a moment ago Jack called, saying that he had to take his daughter to hospital.

Text 2

W: Hello, sir, what can I do for you today?

M: Hello, I need a new suit. I have an important interview next week, so I really need to look smart.

Text 3

W: What're you doing?

M: Reading The Joy Luck Club.

W: What's it about?

M: It's about a group of American-born Chinese women.

Text 4

M: Sorry, I'm late. I caught the wrong bus and went in the wrong direction.

W: Next time pay more attention to where the bus is heading.

Text 5

W: What a mess, Jack!

M: I'm playing with my toys.

W: You'd better tidy up the room now, or you'll get me angry.

Text 6

W: Can I borrow a pencil from you? Mine just broke.

M: Oh, okay. Here you go.

W: Thanks. How did you do on last night's homework?

M: Not very well. I got most of the questions wrong. I'm just not very good at science. How about you?

W: I did okay, but I'm not the best at science either. My strongest subject is English.

M: Mine is math. Don't forget to give me that pencil back after class. It's the only one I have except the one I'm currently using.

W: Don't worry. I won't forget.

Text 7

W: Brad, what about going to Hillcrest Orchards this weekend?

M: Are the apples there ready to pick now?

W: Yes. I'm sure we'll have great fun there. You know there are hundreds of apple trees for people to pick their own apples.

M: I really look forward to doing that. But I've already promised Aunt Brown I'll help take care of Jim for her this weekend.

W: We can take him with us. There are smaller apple trees for children to pick fruit. I'm sure Jim will love doing that.

M: That's a brilliant idea. I'll call Aunt Brown and tell her about that.

W: Good. What about calling her now?

M: I'm afraid she's still on her way home. She usually drives to pick up Jim around 5:00 pm. We can call her a bit later. Let's help Mom prepare dinner now.

Text 8

M: Do you have any idea what time it is?

W: About ten or ten thirty?

M: It's nearly midnight.

W: Really? I didn't know it was so late.

M: Don't you have an early class to teach tomorrow morning?

W: Yes, at seven o'clock.

M: Then you should go to bed. What are you writing, anyway?

W: An article I hope I can publish.

M: What's this one about?

W: Do you remember the trip I took last month?

M: The one to the Amazon rainforest?

W: Well, that's what I'm writing about — the new highway and the changes it's making in the Amazon Basin.

M: It should be interesting.

W: It is. I guess that's why I forgot all about the time.

Text 9

M: I can't believe I just got a parking ticket! I just parked in the usual parking lot next to the subway station.

W: Don't you have to pay to park there?

M: Yeah, and I did. I paid $5. The guy there said I should pay cash and put it in the machine. I got my receipt and put it inside my car. But when I came back, I had a ticket for $30 waiting for me!

W: Oh, that's too bad. Are you going to pay it?

M: No way! Why should I? I paid for my parking. I shouldn't have to pay anything else.

W: Well, what are you going to do?

M: I called the city's transportation office, and they said that I had to fill something out on their website. They'll send me a letter in the mail to let me know about their decision.

W: How long will that take?

M: Oh, they said between a week and a month. But at least I don't have to pay anything until I find out.

Text 10

M: Welcome to Music Talk. Tonight we'll be speaking to a member of the famous band Attam Family. The Attam Family has performed at the Music Hall every summer for years, but this year the event will not include the voice of Batima Attam. Instead, it will be a single guitar performance by her brother, Amir Attam. Amir picked up his first guitar at the age of eight. Since then, he has poured his heart into practicing and learning the guitar. He loved listening to different styles of music, especially the blues. Over the years, he has added parts of rock, pop, and even classical music to his pieces, making him truly popular. Amir often expresses deep appreciation for the inspiration and support his family has given him throughout his musical journey. Tonight, Amir will share his experiences of growing up in a musical family and how it shaped his love for playing the guitar. He'll also talk about the guitarists who influenced him. So now, let's welcome Amir to the stage.
