W: Harry, did you take notes in this morning's lecture on AI advancements?

W: Sure, but I wrote them in shorthand. Let me type them up for you by tomorrow.

W: Hmm, far from it. I'm stuck on the data analysis. It's driving me crazy.
M: Take it easy. I can help you later. Maybe a fresh pair of eyes could spot the issue.
W: Thank you so much, Wilson. Just knowing someone's willing to help eases the stress much.

W: The buses leave every half an hour, Jack. You just missed the nine thirty bus by five minutes.
M: Oh, that's really terrible. Can you give me a lift right now?
W: I'd like to, but I have a meeting to attend ten minutes later. I'm afraid I can't make it. Maybe you can take the subway. It's quick and convenient.
M: Good idea, Janet. I'll go to the nearest station right now.

W: Professor Lee, I'm Kathy Brown in your British and American Literature class. Is it convenient for you to speak with me for a few minutes?
M: Sure. What can I do for you?
W: Well, I'm really fond of this lesson. But I always fail to catch up no matter how hard I try, which makes me disheartened.
M: Don't worry. It's common at first, especially with literary analysis. Is it because I'm talking too fast, or you're not too familiar with the words in the text?
W: Not really... It's the complex themes during lectures that confuse me most.
M: Try this: read the text one or two times before the class. You can also have a discussion with your classmates after class.
W: Thank you so much, Professor Lee.
M: You're welcome.

W: Hi, Tom, I visited your social media pages yesterday and saw those amazing photos from your mountain hike last weekend. Do you hike regularly?
M: Yeah, I used to hike on a monthly basis, but now I go hiking every other month. There's something refreshing about escaping the city, being surrounded by trees and fresh air. Have you thought about trying it?
W: I've been curious, but I'm a total beginner. I'm worried I might not keep up — my daily exercise is just walking to the bus station. Do you think a short path would be okay for me?
M: Absolutely! Start with a beginner-friendly route — at most 5 km, with hills that don't rise or fall very sharply. Don't forget to wear sports shoes, put on more clothes when temperatures go down, and take water and energy bars. I'll hike a nearby hill next Saturday. Would you like to join me, Linda?
W: Why not? I'll find my old sports shoes. Text me the details later, okay?
M: Fine. You'll be glad you finally decide to give it a shot!

W: Eric, I notice you've been packing boxes lately. Are you preparing for your vacation?
M: No. Actually, I got a promotion, so I'm relocating to Washington.
W: Congratulations! It's absolutely a big change! I heard that life there is quite demanding. Is that the case?
M: Probably. But the most challenging thing is the climate. It's quite different from that here, with colder winters.
W: You will need some time to adapt. Do you have any relatives there?
M: Of course. My cousin Oliver, who is majoring in psychology at a local university, lives nearby. I will look in on him after settling in.
W: That is comforting. Hope everything goes well with you!
M: Thank you, Daisy. I'll definitely value the memories of our late-afternoon talks in the front yard.

Takotna is a small village in cold and snowy Alaska. It has a mere population of less than 100. Each March, numerous visitors flood into the village because of its location in the middle of a race that takes place every year. It is a multi-day race called the Iditarod Trail. And participants stop at Takotna for the required 24-hour rest.
Lucky for them,Takotna is known for its delicious pies of all kinds, such as apple, orange, lemon, and banana. Weeks before the competitors arrive, the locals start preparing for what is without question their biggest event of the year. All the villagers reach out to help, including the kids, who end up developing their baking skills at an early age.
Burnt-out and hungry racers are greeted with wonderful pies. They consume the pies and a stomach-warming race drink. The toughness of the race allows racers to eat pretty much whatever they want. The more calories, the better. Takotna has gained a reputation for its dessert-based friendly service since the 1970s. It started with one person, Jan Newton. Jan moved to Takotna with her husband in 1972 and opened a restaurant. Rich and filling fruit pies quickly got the racers' attention, and the village gained some fame as a result. Proud residents then started to refer to Jan as the Queen of Takotna.
