Text 1

W: Why did you reach home so late after work last night? Didn't you take a taxi?

M: I did, but I stopped for a burger on the way.

Text 2

W: Hi, James! It's me, Diane. Oh, I'm so glad I caught you. I was just talking to Drake, and…

M: I'm sorry. But I think you dialed the wrong number. My name is Daniel.

Text 3

M: Did you find it?

W: Yes, I did, in the end. It was at the end of a long path. There wasn't another house in sight. There was a small forest behind it, and fields on either side.

Text 4

M: David said he would quit his job at our school.

W: Really? Why would he do that?

M: His friend started a firm in London. He wanted David to help him.

Text 5

M: I don't think I should wear a dark shirt for a wedding. It just isn't appropriate.

W: Well, the only clean shirts you have are the white one, the black one and the dark blue one.

M: So, there is only one choice.

Text 6

W: Hello, Global Travel Agency. May I help you?

M: Hello. Do you have a package tour to Seattle? If you do, how many days will it last?

W: Yes, we do. Four days and three nights. It's available every Monday and Wednesday.

M: Please help me register two people for the tour for this Wednesday.

W: I'm sorry. This Wednesday is already fully booked. It's the tourist season, you know. Would you go next week?

M: Okay. Can I book it now?

W: Yes, of course. Now, when will you start your holiday, Monday or Wednesday?

M: Well, I'm teaching on Monday. So Wednesday, please.

Text 7

M: Diana, let's talk about food. You were just referring to the food in Chicago. What kind of food would you recommend?

W: Chicago is famous for its Chicago-style pizza and hot dogs. The pizza is different because they put the sauce on the top with amazingly huge toppings.

M: Wow, what toppings can you find on a pizza?

W: Just normal pizza toppings like mushrooms, cheese, tomatoes.

M: So what is your favorite topping?

W: My favorite topping is pineapple, which might sound a little strange.

M: Why?

W: It's just to my taste, and it tastes so good with cheese and sauce.

M: That's much for today. Thanks for sharing your experience with our TV viewers.

Text 8

W: Are you staying by yourself again this summer vacation?

M: No, I'm not. My brother Tom and sister Judy are staying with me right now.

W: Really? What are they doing this summer?

M: Well, my brother is on vacation now. He always wants to come and visit the city. As for my sister, she has a part-time job at the university.

W: And do you have anything special to do?

M: Nothing special. I work as a waiter in the morning. And in the afternoon, I read books bought from a bookstore several days ago. What about you, June? Are you in school this summer?

W: Yes, I am.

M: Oh, are you taking French and Spanish again?

W: Actually, no. I'm starting to learn Japanese.

M: Really? That's exciting.

Text 9

W: Where are you from, Corey?

M: I'm from Canada. I've just moved here.

W: Canada! Are you good at winter sports then?

M: Yeah, I love winter sports very much, such as skiing and snowboarding. I also like ice diving.

W: Wow! That sounds quite exciting!

M: Yeah. I've been doing that for 7 years, since I was 9. What do you do in your free time?

W: Well, swimming used to be my favorite hobby. But now I spend most of my spare time in the drama club I joined last year and I really love the theater — I really want to be an actress one day. Have you got any other hobbies?

M: Um, I guess I enjoy playing online computer games. I feel quite relaxed when playing the games and it helps me make new friends. How about you? Do you spend much time online?

W: Well, I'm not interested in computer games. I think it makes no sense to spend time playing something with strangers. I prefer chatting face to face with my friends.

M: I like chatting with friends too.

W: Oh, it's time for class. Our English teacher is coming. After class I'll introduce you to some of my friends.

Text 10

W: Now let's look at some of the best things going on in our town in July. From the fifteenth to the eighteenth, the travelling theater company will be entertaining our children in the River Concert Hall. Activities include storytelling, drama, and art. Don't miss the great night on the 18th, when the first of the open-air concerts in Sun Park starts off with music from the 1980s. The fun starts at eight and goes on until midnight, when the show ends with a fantastic firework display. The concerts continue throughout the summer. The second one in July is on the 31st. There's more outdoor entertainment with the performance of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night in the Abbey Ruins on Saturday 25th. Bring an umbrella because this performance takes place whatever the weather, but please note there is no performance on Friday because the company has made a booking mistake. The performance will be in another town on that day! If you've bought a ticket for Friday, sorry, but you will be able to get your money back.
