M: What's the date today? May 6th?
W: No, that was yesterday. I hope you didn't forget everything. It's Grandpa's birthday tomorrow.
Text 2
W: I won first prize in the National Writing Contest and I got this camera as an award!
M: It's a good camera! You can take it when you travel.
Text 3
W: I'm leaving the office early today. My mother is ill and I should take her to the clinic. Could you send this package for me?
M: Sure. You can take my car.
Text 4
M: Happy anniversary! Wow, forty years of marriage.
W: Well,I still remember the day when I got married. Then, you were born, and I gave birth to your sister a year later.
Text 5
W:What do you think about my living room?
M: Well, I do like the coffee table, but I don't really care for the curtains. Did you get them in the sales? They look old.
W:My parents gave them to me as a housewarming gift.

W: Hello, are you going to Amsterdam, too?
M: Actually, I'm going to Paris first, and then to Berlin. It's not for a holiday. I have business conferences to attend in the two cities.
W: May I ask where you're from?
M: I am from Madrid, Spain.
W: It's the capital city of Spain, isn't it? My dad has been there many times, but for me, only once, about four years ago. It is a nice city.
M: I am happy you like it. By the way, are you from Japan?
W: No, I am from the country close to Japan. Do you know giant pandas?
M: Oh, I see.

M: The sun is so bright here by the pool! I wish I had my hat.
W: You left it at home?
M: I think so. It was in my suitcase before we went to the airport, but I must have taken it out.
W: What about your sunglasses?
M: Well, those broke on the first day. They fell onto the beach, and I sat on them by accident.
W: You've had some bad luck on this vacation so far, honey! Hey, let's go to the hotel gift shop and buy a new hat. I want to get a new bathing suit anyway.
M: Great! Let me just get my wallet...
W: What's wrong?
M: You're not going to believe what I have left in the room...

W: Morning, Grandpa. What's the matter?
M: The news in this paper made my friend Nat Baker upset. It says: “The old library building on Chestnut Street, which hasn't been used for over a year till now, was planned to be made into a community center to serve senior citizens. Due to a lack of funds for the repainting and necessary furniture, the plans for the community center have been postponed indefinitely.”
W: Is it a serious problem, Grandpa?
M: Yes. Nat is not so lucky as I am, Susan. He doesn't have any family with him. He depends on places like a community center.
W: But there's an old community center on Elm Street.
M: It's small, and it's set up primarily for kids: ping-pong tables, soda machines, and lots of music. It's too noisy for people like Nat.

M: Hello, Clark's Cycle Hire. How can I help you?
W: Oh, hello. I saw your ad in the local paper, and I'm wondering what kinds of bikes you have and what your prices are like.
M: Well, we hire out three types of bikes: electric, touring and mountain bikes. Are you likely to be riding off-road?
W: No, I'll probably be sticking to roads, so a touring bike would be the best.
M: Right, well, the rate will be £50 for a week, or £14 per day.
W: Oh, I will pay for a week as it's a lot cheaper. Is there anything else I'd have to pay?
M: Well, for another £5 we can supply lightweight bags. There's no charge for things like a pump, or for a lock. It's a good strong one. Just make sure you don't lose the key!
W: Hmm, I don't need bags. So, if I do hire one, how do I pay? By cheque, or would it have to be cash?
M: Neither, I'm afraid. We only accept credit card bookings.
W: I've got a Visa card in my name. Would that be OK?
M: Sure.

M:Hello, Mr. Wood. I'm Sam from Highbrook Library. I'm calling to offer my sincere thanks for your generous gifts. The three computers you donated have helped us to better serve our users. We now have five computers and they are almost always in use. And we have decided to allow library members to use a computer for free for two hours.Non-members pay $2 for one hour of use, which is cheap. In addition, your donation has allowed us to lengthen our hours. The library is now open until 8:00 p.m. from Monday to Thursday. This has led to the growth in membership. More people can come when their workday is over. We have even had several book clubs that meet in the evenings. Perhaps you would like to join one.
We are thinking of adding a small cafe on the first floor near the meeting room next year. We hope you will consider contributing to this project as well. You will receive more information about it in the future. Thanks again for your support for the Highbrook Library. Goodbye.
