Text 1

M: I have to go to Mr.Green's to discuss my paper. But I'd see a film with you when I come back.

W: I'm going to the cinema right now with Jane and I don't think you could make it.

Text 2

M: Wow, you're completely wet!

W: It's terrible out there. I couldn't even see the road clearly. I had an umbrella, but it was useless.

M: You really shouldn't have gone out after noticing the dark clouds.

Text 3

W: Oh, this is funny. Watch what happens to the man's car!

M: That is a pretty funny advertisement. I guess the message is that those cars are very safe, even if accidents happen.

Text 4

M: Hey, Cathy, how about this restaurant? The food is great, as well as the environment, isn't it? You can get anything you want.

W: Anything except fast and friendly service.

Text 5

W: The weather forecast says it will be sunny and hot this Saturday. How about going to the beach?

M: Sorry. The beach never appeals to me. I prefer staying at home and watching football all day.

Text 6

M: Becky, could you do the radio show for me tomorrow?

W: Why? What's up?

M: Well, I have to deal with a family emergency.

W: Oh, I hope everything is all right. Wish you good luck.

M: Don't worry. I'll just be away for several days.

W: OK. I'd love to help you out with the show. I've just completed my current project.

M: That's great! You know, you're the only person I have asked because no one in our company is as reliable as you.

W: It's nice of you to say so. I'll make you proud!

Text 7

W: I cannot believe the school year is almost over.

M: Do you have any plans for the summer holiday?

W: My family are trying to figure out whether to go to Australia or California. If you had to choose, where would you rather go?

M: I think I would rather go to Australia because I really like diving in the ocean there. Where would you prefer to go?

W: I have always wanted to go to Disneyland in southern California. My younger sister wants to go there, too, but my elder brother wants to go surfing in Australia.

M: Well, what do your parents want to do?

W: They think money is less important and just care about spending time together.

Text 8

W: Can I take a look?

M: Sure. It's just a room. My mother used to live in it and keep it clean. She moved out. So I thought maybe I'd take in a roommate.

W: That's a very nice room. I think I will take it if the rent is OK. What's the rent?

M: $300 per month, including the electricity and water. But if you pay yearly, you'll get a 5% discount.

W: That's quite reasonable. I will take it. Do I have to sign a contract with you?

M: You don't have to.

W: Can I pay by credit card?

M: I'm sorry. You can use neither checks nor credit cards. Only cash is accepted.

W: Oh, I see. Can I move in tomorrow evening?

M: Well, you can move in any time after Wednesday, the day after tomorrow.

Text 9

M: Hi, Laura. Are you on your way to the gym?

W: Yeah. Our teacher told us there is a guest speaker here to give the students a special presentation. What is it about?

M: It's the first in a series of safety announcements for the graduating class. The speaker is a man who was injured in a car accident.

W: That must be the man in a wheelchair I saw in the hallway this morning. Why is he speaking to us?

M: He wants to warn us about the dangers of speeding.

W: That makes sense. How many more announcements will there be?

M: We have one next week, and another one the week after. One is about classroom safety, and the other is about travel safety.

W: Classroom safety?

M: You know, because we are taking classes like Woodworking, Metalworking, and Cooking. Which one did you take?

W: I already know how to cook, so I took Woodworking. You?

M: Metalworking. I help my dad out in his shop already, so it's an easy “A” for me.

W: OK, I have to go. Talk to you later.

M: Bye!

Text 10

M: Good morning, everyone! I hope you're all feeling OK after the activities of the last week. We were very busy with the wedding last weekend and the trade fair straight after that. And now we have only three days to prepare for the birthday party this weekend. At the moment, we don't have the exact number of guests, but it won't go over 100. The invitation says guests are supposed to arrive between 7:30 and 7:45. But there are always a few who like to arrive early so we'll expect the first people at 7:15. The food will be served at around 8:10. The hosts have emailed me the menu. The activities will last for two hours. We were expecting a pianist to give a performance, but this has been canceled. We had hoped a local magician who worked here through the summer would be able to help out but he refused. So the hosts invited a comedian and he will be here this weekend.
