Text 1

W: David, could you give my dictionary back tomorrow? Mary wants to borrow it.

M: Sure, Rosa. I'm sorry I have kept it so long.

Text 2

W: We can go by bus or by train. I believe those are our only choices to get to the entertainment park.

M: No, there is another way that's even better. We can take a taxi, and it will get us there in half the time.

Text 3

M: Ella, what do you fancy doing this evening? There's nothing on at the cinema.

W: Why don't we have a game of tennis and then go out for something to eat?

Text 4

M: Today's football match has been put off.

W: What happened?

M: The organizers had a look at the field and said it was just too soft because of all the rain recently.

W: And I heard some players had been sick, which could affect how well they'll play.

Text 5

M: So tell me more about your family. I know you have a little brother and a little sister.

W: Yes, Colin and Mary. They are twins. They are very fun.

M: And you live with your mum?

W: I used to, but I moved out with my husband after we got married.

Text 6

W: So, how did you get on at the wildlife park?

M: Well, there's such a lot to see. The only thing was, my daughter was too young and we were not allowed to get close to tigers or feed them. Anyway, I did drive my car through the park and saw wolves and bears wander freely there.

W: Isn't that a bit dangerous?

M: Well, you can't go round on motorbikes or in soft-top cars. This is a strict rule you must obey. And keepers of the park are traveling around in a special car all the time, so they're on hand if there's trouble.

W: Sounds amazing!

Text 7

M: Excuse me, do you mind if I sit here?

W: Of course not. Go ahead.

M: Thanks.

W: Where are you going?

M: I'm on my way to Nanjing. It is said that it only takes one and a half hours to get there now. It saves passengers half an hour.

W: Yeah, it is because of the use of Fuxing bullet trains. They can reach 350 km/h.

M: Wow! That's really amazing! Are you going to Nanjing, too?

W: No, I'm going to Hangzhou. I prefer to travel off-season.

M: Really? I've been told many times that it's a very beautiful place, but I've never been there since I came to China two years ago.

W: Yes, it is really worth visiting. Are you American or European?

M: Well, actually, I come from Canada and I was invited by a Chinese university to teach western culture. Oh, it's time for my train. Nice talking with you.

W: Goodbye! Have a good trip!

Text 8

W: Adventure Reservations. Can I help you?

M: Yes. I'm calling to book a single room with a bath for four days from September 22.

W: Just a moment, please. I'm sorry, sir. We are fully booked on those dates.

M: Oh, that's too bad. Could you recommend another hotel that won't be full up to me?

W: Yes, of course. Where would you rather like to be, in the city center or in the suburbs?

M: I prefer a place close to the city center because it is more convenient.

W: In that case, I would suggest that you try the Imperial.

M: Do you know the rate per night for a single room with a bath there? And please tell me what the Imperial is like.

W: Well, a single with a bath at the moment would be between $50 and $60. It is rated as a four-star hotel. Ours is better known than the Imperial but then the Imperial is less expensive than here.

M: Uh-huh. One last thing, do you know its telephone number? I want to book as soon as possible.

W: Yes, it is 61540928. And...

W: Welcome back to Soccer Tips. We're talking to soccer star Karl Kessel to find out what makes him such a successful player. Karl?

M: Well, hard work of course contributes the most. Besides that, good training and keeping to a set schedule on the game day also help me a lot.

W: Could you tell us a bit about your game day schedule?

M: Well, it's important to get a long rest the night before a game. I usually get up pretty late on the days we're playing.

W: What time?

M: About 8:30. I don't eat right away. I leave home and arrive at the stadium at about 9:20. Then I have breakfast with the team at about 9:50.

W: Do you have a team meeting on the game day?

M: Of course. We get together at 12:00 to talk about the game. We watch tapes of past games with the other team at 1:00.

W: So you can notice any mistakes you've made?

M: Just to remind us of the kinds of tips the other team use.

W: What about warm-up exercises before the game?

M: We begin warming up at about 4:45 so we're ready to play by the time the game starts at 5:30.

M: Thanks for coming to the museum. As the head of the art museum, I'm so excited to offer you a special tour of this area. This collection has pieces from all over the world — class artists like Leonardo da Vinci, and Edvard Munch. But before we enter, please understand that the museum will not be open to the public until next month. So we wish you could keep your pictures as a secret if you take any today. I invite all the visitors here to leave your suggestions about the shows in the museum. For the next 15 minutes, we'll explore the museum while I offer background information. After that, you'll have another hour to walk around while enjoying the drinks or snacks of your choice. So, everyone, here we go. First, you'll notice this huge painting by Edvard Munch. It's called The Scream. After that, you'll see da Vinci's Self-portrait. But personally, the painting I love best is Mona Lisa. Anyway, let's move on. We don't have much time, and there are a lot of paintings to view.
