M: Hi, Linda. Did you buy anything in the town yesterday?

W: Yes. Look at my beautiful green sweater. And I bought this amazing red leather bag and a lovely blue skirt.

M: Hi, Helen. Where are you off to?

W: To the library. I've got a history paper due next week, and need to do some reading.

M: Shall I take you to the hotel and then to the office?

W: OK. That would be nice. I'm really a little bit tired after the long flight.

M: It's raining again. The weather report says it's going to snow tonight.I don't like this kind of weather. 

W: But it's going to be sunny this weekend.

M: Where is Lily? We haven't finished yet.

W: She has gone home. Her mother picked her up just now. She was very tired. She couldn't stay and play another game.

M: Good morning. How can I help you?

W: It's a rush job. We need some machine parts from France. Our supplier in Paris let us down at the last minute. 

M: I see. When will you need them?

W: This Saturday. We need to fit the parts on the machine this Sunday so that we can get on with production from Monday. Do you think you can do it? 

M: No problem.

M: Do you live in a nice neighbourhood, Lydia? 

W: It's nothing special, actually, but it's convenient and I like that.

M: What do you mean?

W: Well, I never need to cook because there are places to eat everywhere — some really good cafes and family-type restaurants. And they are very cheap.  

M: So you don't plan to move?

W: I don't think so. I don't like the traffic noise, but it's really convenient for me to go to work.

W: Thank you for taking some time off from your busy schedule to attend this talk show! 

M: It's my pleasure! 

W: How many films have you acted in?

M: That's a hard question. I think I've acted in more than 50 films.

W: Wow! That's a lot! How many years have you been an actor?

M: I've been an actor since I was ten. In other words, I've been an actor for twenty years. 

W: That's impressive. Do you have any future projects?

M: Yes. I'm going to focus on making a few documentaries next year. 

W: That sounds great! Will you keep acting in the movies?

M: Well, I'm not sure. Maybe I'll become a director, and maybe I'll just retire. I have always dreamed of traveling around the world.

W: Oh, it's a pity if you retire! We love your films!

M: That's very kind of you. I'm sure I'll act in a few more films.

W: That's good to hear.

W: Hi, I have two bedrooms available and I'm looking for students who want to live in.

M: How much are you thinking of for these rooms?

W: I think $700 for a room would be a pretty fair price. 

M: Is that every month?

W: Yeah. And the cleaner comes once a week. So that would be another $30 a month for the cleaning of each room. 

M: OK. What have you got in the house?

W: There's a fridge and a dishwasher in the kitchen and a washing machine in the bathroom. But I don't provide the dryer. 

M: Is there a shopping mall nearby?

W: Yes, just a block away. But you have to go downtown for a movie. Boyd Park is only several miles away. And we're right by the beach. 

M: OK. I'll post this up for you and I hope you have some luck. 

W: Thank you very much. If anyone asks about my house, please let me know as soon as possible. 

M: OK!

　　W: Today, let's begin with note-taking techniques. Note-taking is an important skill not only for taking classes, but also for doing your job in the future. I'd like to draw your attention to certain points about taking notes. First, remember that note-taking should be 75% listening and only 25% writing, so don't try to write down every single word the teacher says. Ignore what is unimportant and write in phrases, not complete sentences. Second, leave spaces and lines between main ideas. You may want to add some information later. I find that some of you are very good at mapping webs, making use of color and symbols such as arrows, circles and boxes. I highly recommend these tools to all of you, because the use of them makes the outline more easily readable and interesting than the blocks of text. It also makes sure that important words stand out. Here are some examples.
