Unit 3B

Text 1

W: John, is Mark coming for tea tomorrow?

M: Yes, I told you yesterday, Tracy.

W: Oh, did you? Sorry, I must have forgotten.

Text 2

M: Did you say you were driving to town this morning?

W: Yes. I have to draw some money from the bank to pay my bookstore bills.

Text 3

M: Of the two cars we have seen today, which one do you prefer?

W: Well, the red one is more comfortable and costs less, while the white one doesn't use much gas. As a lover of nature, I am surely going to choose the latter.

Text 4

M: What are you getting Sammy for his birthday? Is he too old for toys now?

W: I've decided to give him a gift card. He can get whatever he wants.

M: Good idea. I'll do this as well. I think I can also get him a set of books, which are always nice to have.

Text 5

W: Good morning! What can I do for you?

M: Well, here is a 20-dollar bill. Give me three tickets for today's film at seven o'clock, please.

W: OK. Five dollars each and here is the change.

Text 6

W: Harry, guess what? I've just received an email from Pamela. She and Peter are coming down to see us this weekend.

M: Oh, that's good news! We haven't seen them for ages.

W: Yeah. The last time we met them was at our wedding three years ago.

M: Did Pamela mention how long they would stay?

W: About one week.

M: Great! I can't wait to show them around our new house.

W: Me too. We haven't had any guests since we moved in. If the weather is fine, we can have a barbecue in the garden.

M: Good idea. I'll go to the market tomorrow to buy all the things we'll need.

Text 7

W: Hello, Mr. Strong. This is Jenny speaking.

M: Hello, Jenny. Is there anything I can do for you?

W: Well, I'm calling to tell you there is going to be a meeting in the hall this evening.

M: Well, Jenny, I'm now in London and I can't get back until early tomorrow morning. So I won't be able to attend the meeting. Will you tell the head teacher about that?

W: OK, Mr. Strong. By the way, have you finished your report on how to help foreigners to learn English?

M: Not yet, but I'll finish it in about three days.

W: Will you please tell me when you finish it? I want to be the first one to read it.

M: No problem.

Text 8

W: Henry, you look like you're on top of the world. What's up?

M: I just heard some good news from our head teacher.

W: What was it? Has our school football team won the football match?

M: No, it wasn't that. I just got the news that the painting I finished last month has been chosen to be exhibited in the city's Student Art Show.

W: Really? That's great news.

M: So do you want to go to the show?

W: Sure. When will it be held?

M: From 9 am to 4 pm next Monday. I really can't wait to go.

W: Me too. By the way, have you told your parents the good news? I'm sure they'll be happy to hear that.

M: I haven't told them yet. I'll call and tell them about it now.

Text 9

W: Today I'm with Robin Marshall, who has just written a book about traveling in Argentina. Robin, tell us about yourself.

M: Well, I've traveled to South America a lot for my work and I know Argentina well now. So well that I could be a tour guide if I want! I speak fluent Spanish, so I don't need anyone to translate for me. My job involves traveling around selling products for my company.

W: Did you see any performances during your trip?

M: Yes, I did. I used to attend dance classes. I enjoyed them although I was never very good. I'm sure my teacher was pleased when I said I wasn't going to continue. But these dancers look so easy that at that moment I felt like joining in and dancing with them.

W: And what else did you do?

M: Well, I went to a small village. I took a bus there. The hotel owner took me down the river in his boat. It was very beautiful and I could see the forest in the distance.

W: Do you have a favorite place in Argentina?

M: Definitely. It's a mountain. It's famous for its scenery. But when I went there, I couldn't see much: there were no birds or animals about. It was totally quiet, and I loved that.

Text 10

W: Good morning, everyone. Welcome back to our Moon Lake programme. Here is some important news for those who play an instrument and enjoy competitions! If you're between 12 and 16, why not come along to our Radio 33 Winter Music competition? It's on 17th December so you've got some time to practice. The competition isn't here at the radio station. We're having it at the town hall this year. It begins at 7:30 but if you want to play the violin, guitar or sing for us, you must be there with your instrument by 6:30 at the latest. If you're the best on the night, you'll win a ride over the town on a plane! Can you believe it? And the second-prize winner will visit a music school and talk with some musicians. Well, if you want to know more, call us here at Radio 33 and ask to speak to Maggie. That's Maggie Boyle, B-O-Y-L-E. It'll be a great night!
